A. Parker Fly - Expensive, looks like plastic, but these things can fly.
B. Telecaster - Some of these have AMAZING distorted AND clean sounds. Theres one i found for 850 new that was amazing. Versatility at its best.
C. Paul Reed Smith - Some people complain that they don't have much character, but they diliver a beautiful dark sound, which is what i like.
D. I was really lucky, i'm not huge into Ibanez, but when i baught my first guitar, I was already a tone freak. I tried out the S470, and its extremely awsome. The neck pickup sounded bluesy when you turn the tone control the slighest bit from the high end (near the high end but a bit further away). Dig in and you got blues (wth? Ibanez that plays blues?)...better believe it sounds 10 times better than my friend's strat. I play that same pickup distorted and it rocks.
If all of this doesn't quite satisfy you still, then try new pickups on your already new guitar.. The L500 by Bill Lawrence pickups....most amazing distorted sound i've ever heard. Eric Johnson uses Lawrence single coils. These things have no excess noise, and they did wonders for my friend's guitar. Because I have 500 k pots, I have to order the XL500, and it should be here in the next few days. If you call Bill Lawrence, this guy is amazingly brilliant with guitars, and will recommend you to whatever you tell him that you want for your guitar. Whatever kind of sound, he will give you it with the pickups. These things are extremely cheap too.
Sorry to ramble on these...but if you don't believe me, check out the reviews www.harmonycentral.com . Go to reviews, pickups, Bill Lawrence or maybe its Lawrence. All of the reviews are 9's and 10's.....amazing.
