after looking over all the threads, it seems many of you are technically apt to build computers yourselves. it also seems that a lot of you are AMD fans. SO.....

i'm without a computer, but i want to buy one with the power to record (primary concern), play games (secondary concern), and, of course, do standard apps (i.e., internet surfing, word, etc.) since i can't build one myself, does anybody know a good place to buy computers or a good place to have computers custom built (not like 'dell' custom built, i'm mean REALLY custom built)? i'm in seattle if that helps any.

OR does anyone know a good place, person, manual, whatever that could assist/direct/instruct me in building my own computer?

thank you very very very very much....

You know, talk to me and let me know what you want exactly, and I'll pick the parts... have them shipped to me, and I'll build it for you and ship it to you ready to go for a really pathetic cost... like maybe an MXL 603 or a new SM-57 or something. I'll even take 2 BLUE kiwi cables for my trouble (see 8thstreet.com). Help me and I'll help you. Dig?
Let me know,
Paul

Oh, and my email address is musikaldude@hotmail.com
I just finished bu8lding mine (the 10th one or so that I have built) and its pretty nice. For all high quality parts, the box costed me about $500, not counting the operating system or a monitor. I can build one cheaper with cheper stuff, but why bother? This box would have costed me $900 without a monitor at circuit city, and you STILL wouldnt know what was REALLY in it or where they skimped.
Peace.

That's a pretty good offer from Tubedude.

If for some reason you feel squeemish about sending money to a guy you met on the internet just do a web search for computer stores in your area. There are many mom and pop computer stores that will put everthing together for about $50 if you buy the parts from them.

If I were you, I would probably try and take up Tubedudes offer. Even though to you it may seem like a weird thing. I would just try and have some form of protection for the both of you.

My thinking behind that is simply that alot of "Build 'Em for ya Cheap" places will use name brand parts that have failed certain reliability tests and call it a winner. But the parts will take a steaming crap right up on your desk, I have seen it happen first hand to some of my buddies cpu's, and also myself including!! I think that were all friends here, tubedudes is just tryin to help out a fellow musigeek. =) Chances are he'll get ya rollin' like he would for himself.

If you think that is out of the question, I would consider buying a computer shell <Case, MB, and wires and drives> from your local CPU shop, and then just adding the Soundcard, RAM, Video Card, and Hard Drive yourself. It is surprisingly easy to do <I too have built all my computers>. Don't be intimidated by it, I once walk a 67 year old women through reseating her processor and installing a new soundcard OVER THE PHONE!! Everything that you buy usually comes with step by step instructions. Otherwise there are 101 sites on the net.

Good luck!

Frankly, I'm not sure how much more I would trust these guys than tubedude. I Googled all the above. No telling who's reliable and who's not. I recommend going with tubedude, though, and building a comp is really a no-brainer. It's gettin the stuff to work together later that's the tough part: drivers, IRQs, software, etc.

With tubedude, I'm sure he'll send you a fully-working box with everything installed. You'll hafta check with the others.

Ok if you're not sure who to trust, then buy a plane ticket to Ky with all the money you are going to save for having that computer built and watch him build it. Then give him a wrapped gift for all his effort, shake hands, and deal done. You still saved yourself some cash, and will probably come out with a trusted friend out of the deal.

Here's an option

Check out www.tcwo.com , they have barebone bundle systems that you partly assemble yourself with complete instructions. Just a thought, Silver
