need a compressor that will add weight to my beats

i produce electronic music and i need a compressor that will add weight to my beats, that kind of metalic 'heaviness' that can be heard on photek and portishead tracks. Ive been told urei's are the way to go for this sound but i may have been misinformed...
any ideas?

budget wise im looking at stuff up to around $1000. but i will be buying second hand, i.e. ebay

I was in search of the something similar. Somebody actually recommended http://store.yahoo.com/mercenary-audio/landualvocco.html

But, others recommended to mic the drum machines through an amp, or your monitors and put it on another track, then mix the direct track with the mic'd track. I've been doing this and i'm really happy about the results. I only add a tiny bit of the mic'd track, and it really sounds great.

If your application is recording and not live, you should look into the LA2A in the UAD-1 pack. It seems to do wonders on drums.
