Hello all,

I run Logic Audio Platinum 4,7 on a Mac 233 MHz with 544MB, a 60 gig , 7200rpm Hard Drive and I recently bought "Pluggo Plugins" from Cycling74. I have an Audiowerk 2 card.

The problem is, that when I get to about 8 tracks of audio playback my setup begins to max out. If I add effects, it REALLY go beserk. Results vary from bad timing , loss of of occasional track to total aural loss.

I want to upgrade to some kind of system whereby I can give the overwhelming bulk of the load to DSP's (digital signal processors)of some description. But I don't know what's available on the market. I know Pro tools offers something along these lines but then I'll have to switch to Pro Tools software, won't I? If I can, I'd like to stay with LOGIC. What about the TC Powercore card? The problem with the TC Powercore card, as I see it is that it doesn't support VST's which I definately want.

I'm grateful for any advice on what non-native solutions are out there on the market.

How about a hand built PC that will cost you $600 and be 8 times more powerful than your current very unpowerful setup?
Try 60 tracks without plugs, and maybe 30 tracks WITH about 2 plugs each and a few on the main bus...
What more can you ask for for $600?
See the Athlon XP thread by me below this one...

Many thanks for the reply, you're not the only one to have mentioned Athlon chips to me. However, I'd like to stick with the mac setup for now mainly because I'm used to it and all the people I work with musically have macs (apart from one) which makes it easier for us to share stuff. Nonetheless, thanks for the tip, I will keep it in mind it's becoming a very serious consideration for me.

I'd still like to hear from people who use DSP's to control their effects and/or sequencing.

thanks

Few people here will have DSP based stuff (homreccers, man)... too expensive when we can get equal performance from a really powerful DAW fo 1/2 the price.
Keep asking though, someone might...
