Nano - Lime Light (EOM Cypher) by Nano905 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

Hey guys, this is the first song I've recorded and mixed and I was wondering how I can make it sound more professional and what you think of it. The instrumental was produced by EOM for a cypher and he provided a download link here: EOM LIME LIGHT RHYME TIGHT CYPHER INSTRUMENTAL.mp3.

I am using a Samson CO1U USB Condenser Mic and recorded on FL Studio. I used a Compressor and a Limiter as well as some reverb.

Thanks

I would suggest raising the level of your vocals to at least match the vocals in the opening refrain. It "sounds" like you are just talking over a pre-recording (which is not exactly uncommon in this genre) but I would try to make it sound like you were actually there with the original performer. The vocal recording is good by itself, just needs to sound like it is IN the mix, rather than OVER it

That's the issue that I thought I was having. When I listen to it the vocals don't sound like they are blending with the rest of the instrumental. Is it just because I need to rap with more enthusiasm and up the volume of the vocals?

Thanks

It always has to have some enthusiastic push behind it just to come out normal. Speak more strongly from the stomach, like you are singing.
Try lifting the vocal track 3db at a time to see what matches the song. Fine tune it from there
