This is my current project. So far I have Sessions 1 and 2 of 3 complete as far as tracking is concerned. I though I might have some fun with this one and let you guys try to guess what famous pshychedelic era rock tune it is before I do the vocal session.

Enjoy! :D

I'm fishing for this one, cuz it ain't the same chord progression I knew, but is it Lucky Man by ELP?????????

If someone gets it right, I let you folks know. In the mean time keep guessing. Next week we do the vocal session and I'll post the final mix.

I agreed initialy with Roland, but I think it's a tad fast for Lucky Man. Nice guitar pieces.

Ok, as far as the recording/mix goes...

-The drums sound like they were recorded with just overheads or room mics. That's okay, but I guess my point is, there's a lot of drum "body" missing.
-After about a minute, I was really tired of the flangey/chorusy sound. But it went on for the whole song (more on this later). -Overall, I think the clean guitar sounds and the bass tone could have a little more edge to them. You're playing in a semi-Hendrix style, but your sounds (except for the flange sound) are ultra-clean... even on the leads. If you're gonna go the Hendrix route, turn up that amp! Or at least throw a Tube Screamer on there or something.
-It sounds like maybe you are using a solid state amp, because the clean is sooooooooooooo clean, and the distorted sounds like my old Princeton Chorus solid-state fender distortion. You'd be well served to get some tubes on your stuff, or some distortion pedals.
-The bassist is good, but that Popping and stuff sounds a little bit like it's in the wrong genre here.

My guess: The Wind Cries Mary by Hendrix... just a guess based more on the guitar style and the chorus chord progression...

I supposed I should have prefaced this whole thing with a disclaimer that this is not in any way, shape, or form, a final mix.

The effects are likely to change after the vocals are recorded on Saturday.

Keep guessing
