What's this button do?
Yeah, usually that is what I do, a short 3 ft 1/4" cable. If I have an XLR closer I will use that. Not too picky.

Actually, I don't have my Audio Buddy here, and now I am thinking it doesn't have XLR outs....

Yeah,the Buddy has 1/4 outs.You wouldn't want to run it into a xlr mic input anyhow because then you would be running through another preamp.

What's this button do?
You know, I have never really been too unhappy with the sound of the pre's on my D1600, just that the gain/volume control is frustrating to work with.
