Whenever i try to set the tempo and click track in n-track, it says error opening midi out device. What the heck can i do?

Go to the preferences (Control-P) and set the MIDI output device.

Do you have a soundcard that supports MIDI synthesis like an SBLive or a software MIDI synth (if not, it won't work no matter what)???

I use a 24-bit card for all my audio in/out and an SBLive to handle all the MIDI in my PC.

ah

i have an omni studio and it doesn't exactly show up on the midi devices list :(. I also have a project card bt i dunno if it has room for it in there.

Is there any way around this?

There is a software version of the Rolad SoundCanvas MIDI syntheser out there. You can search for it on the web- one place that has it is http://www.pgmusic.com/rolandvs.htm for $30.

That's a piece of software that'll do all your MIDI in the computer and then output it to your audio-only soundcard. That's the way you're going to have to go if you can't add something like an SBLive to your system.
