A neighbor of mine won a fender stratocaster in a raffle and has offered to sell it to me for 500 euros. she was told its worth well over a 1000 euros but i want to get some idea of what it might be worth befor i commit to buying it. Also, it has a sortof custom "Miller Genuine Draft" paint job which i guess was why it was in a raffle. it says "custom body" on the headstock , and a "fender stratocaster 50th anniversary" emblem on it. any opinions on what it would be worth would be much appreciated, and as soon as possible :p .

BTW the serial number is mz5xxxxx (loving the forum!!)

If its mexican made, which should be confirmed on the headstock, i wouldn't pay 1000 for it...i probably wouldn't even pay 500.

On the other hand, from what I have found out, only seventy of these were produced as prizes in Britain/Ireland and the rest of Europe, with a further 4 handpainted models being produced for Miller corporate use, so they are quite rare.

However, it's Mexican, so official Fender value is only 527.99 dollars, which translates to around 400 euro, give or take 50 for import duties, dealer mark-up/down,what have you. Street or online values is less still, so...

On the basis that it's already second hand, negotiate the price down to 300, and go for it.

Although predicting these things is difficult, it will, in all probability, appreciate in value, although maybe not for a considerable time. After 25 years, a guitar is, by trade standards, officially 'vintage'. Therefore, you might be waiting a while for a return on your investment. 'MZ5' dates the guitar as 2005, so it is quite recent. Should you buy it, you'll have a nice playing, nice sounding guitar. Mexican Strats are quite decent quality.

buy it and then sell it to some corporate Miller Draft dewd for 5 times the cost. ;) The paint job being rare but possibly only a small target group for interest in owning it for the paint job? the anniversary would have some extra appeal and the custom tag on the neck too.

interesting ordeal. are you buying it to sell or to play?

thanks guys for the input, i was going to buy it because i thought it was too good to pass up, i was buying it to play and for use in the studio. if she lowers the price to 250 - 300 i will buy it.

thanks again

Cool, good luck. Let us know how you get on with it.

dude it's made in mexico. when i was living in florida, a local bar had a contest for the best guitarist and the prizes were those Miller strats, just as you described. it's a mexican strat with a bad beer logo on it. maybe it will have some collector value at some point but i'd try to get it as cheap as possible if i were you.

Just about every gig I play,Miller sends their girls out. These guitars are not
rare, they are squires. They say STRATOCASTER in big bold letters on the head. The Squire thing is pretty small. They would be worth about 5 bucks
if they contained beer, that was not made by Miller.

whatever man i know the diffrence between a fender and a squier

Yep, you do, seeing as your the only one I've seen ever to spell Squier correctly.

This is not a squier.

It's what Fender call a standard strat - i.e, made in Mexico.

Sorry Dave.I wasn't implying that you were stupid.
Last saturday the miller girls gave one away with that same paint shceme
that was a Squier.(I spelled it right this time)The one you mentioned is a
mex strat.
I doubt very seriously that that guitar would ever be of value to a collector.
I may have my conversion wrong, but isn't 1000 euro almost 1300 U.S.D.?
If so,you could do a lot better for yourself than a mex strat.

funnily enough i actually like the miller design lol, but ive seen some different miller strats on the net an they aint pretty. she has lent it to me for a few days so i can decide and maybe offer it to my friends for sale. its a nice guitar, i like the string tension and tone compared to my overpriced epiphone.i wish the volume knob wasnt so close to the strings, pity it isnt a miller telecaster :o .

il keep yis posted
