mysterious console view s3

when i use 2 monitors consul view shows 3 panes: 1) tracks
2) a,b aux1 and 2, 3)410- 123 and 410 -345(my soundcard is 410 m-audio

I was assuming that the middle pane "a" was what would be "recording" what the mix was when exporting but now i'm not so sure

When i put a "track inspector" plug in on this buss along with multiband compressor (for ~ "mastering) the track inspector doesn't want to "see" the midi info from VST synth

maybe i have to convert it to audio data before "masteriing" output export or does the multiband actually see it

also what is that 3rd pane that doesn't show itself in track view
 
Not sure I'm following you here, Lopie. However, the first bank is your tracks. The second bank is your Aux Buses and Virtual Busses. The third bank is your physical outputs (i.e., your sound card).

Normally I set up a Virtual Bus named Master. Ultimately, I route everything to the Virtual Master. Therefore, I pretty much ignore the physical outputs, as they should duplicate the Master.
 
my vst was outputing to sound card

I changed it to "a" and will play with it - i sure wish i could find that thread that showed different peoples buss configurations- it really went over my head the first time i read it

There is nothing inherently wrong with that; however, as you noted, the "Hardware Outs" do not show up in Track View, and you can not put any FX on them. Therefore if you wanted to run a plugin for your entire mix, you would be out of luck using this approach.

What I've been doing is setting up a Virtual Bus named Master (you can probably just rename your "A" bus). Ultimately, everything will get routed to this Master bus (although some tracks go thru "sub" busses and/or aux busses first). Then I assign the Master Bus to my Hardware (sound card).

So a project that has 10 tracks: bass, 4 drum tracks, guitar, lead vocal, and 3 BGV's might look as follows:

Bass track is assigned directly to Master.

All drum tracks are assigned to a sub-bus named "Drums" and the sub-bus "drums" is assigned to Master.

Guitar is assigned directly to Master.

Lead Vox is assigned to Master. Lead track also has a send going to Aux 1 which has a reverb patch on it. Aux 1 is assigned to Master.

BG Vox are assigned to sub-bus BG Vox. Each of these also has a send to Aux 1. sub-bux BG Vox is assigned to Master.

Master, of course, is assigned to Sound Card 1/2.

That works for me. YMMV.
 
got you I think

my head starts spinning when i think of all those buss's and routing - i'm affraid i'm going to stop playing music and start reading manuals -erg!!!

I did follow you though and appreciate the help!!!!
