Someone just returned my trusty Shure SM-54 (kind of like a HiZ chrome SM57 with a pistol grip) and it's origninal cable (with a proprietary connector on the mic end). My recollection, which, alas, gets fuzzier and fuzzier, is that I purchased it USED about 1965 for $25 (about a hundred gallons of gas by today's valuations?). It's been in continuous (ab)use since. It still works fine and the only things that ever had to be replaced were the 1/4-inch plug on the cable and the nut on the angle-adjustment screw. God Bless the (probably now retired) engineers at Shure.
