Hi I am a singer/guitarist who plays in open squares and small venues.
I finally purchased Tapco compact mixer today

I tell you the story I had a Behringer Eurorack UB 802 compact mixer which i used to plug into my Mini 100 watt max powered Satgeline amp and from that ran my 200 watt pro sound speaker .I use it when I busk or do private garden parties.

The Behringer was'nt that bad it had lots of headroom and was priced at only £40.00 minus the effects . I ran my own Boss RRV-10 Reverb unit through the aux send and returns.

After a while I was'nt to happy with the Behringer I found it sounded a bit too thin and trebley .

So last week I got a Yamaha MG10/2 which cost me £68.00, infact they had a Tapco blend 6 there for the same price but the guy in the music store told me the Yamaha was the best buy.

You know I wish I had tested them out and compared them before I brought the Yamaha. The Yamaha was a lot better then the behringer quality wise but you had to really turn it up before it had some edge and I noticed the sound was slightly muffed.

Anyway after searching the net and reading reviews I contacted the music store and then went and got a Tapco ultra compact mixer which is entitled Tapco Mix 60.

I tried it for the first time today at a gig , as soon as I pluged my Tapco into my amp , when I put the amp on I was blown away by the crystal clear quality sound that was coming through my speaker .

I realised that Tapco use mackie inspired mic pre's .

So I basically wasted my money on the Yamaha and they would'nt let me test them out in the shop, infact i am going to make a complaint to the music store as the guy said that the Tapco was'nt that good . He is wrong there, the Tapco smashes the Behringer and the MG 10/2Yamaha to bits.
The reason I got the Tapco mix 60 and not the Tapco Blend 6 was that the mix 60 was all that they had in stock and no other music shops had them in stock.

But I tell you I am so glad I got the Tapco ultra compact mix 60 , though its small the sound you get is suprisingly superb.

Plus it only cost me £46.00
Its amazing the Tapco is almost half the price of the Yamaha one but the Tapco is far better though the yamaha has 10 mic/line channel inputs and the the tapco only has 6. Bt quality wise the Tapco mix 60 did it for me.

And if this is what the Tapco entry level compact mixers sound like I would love to hear what the upgrades sound like.
I definataly recommend it.

Sounds good dave.

I don't mind the yamaha MG stuff mind you. I'm glad to hear you atleast said it was better than the behringer. Considering TAPCO is a branch off mackie, i'm sure the quality is decent. I'm a fan of the mackie stuff ever since i got the 1604-vlz pro. Don't know how people can compare the behringer stuff to this mackie gear, both by build, sound...and looks.

Whats the headroom like in the Tapco gear?

Hi hand in glove

I relised yesterday that the Tapco mix 60 is one of thier entry level compact mixers ,I was suprised , the headroom was great even connecting my Tanglewood jumbo guitar on one of the line in's even without a DI box it sounded clean.

The pre amps are so good you hardly need to use the three band eq's.

My fellow musician friend was walking by and he even noticed the differance in the quality of sound.

you gotta lay off the bold, it looks like you're writing a press release

At about $60US a pop, how much could they afford to pay him???

So, if I remember the history correctly, Greg Mackie worked for Tapco and designed the little Tapco mixers that guys like Greg Rollie were using as sub mixers back in the early 70's. They were the first compact mixers. He left Tapco to form Mackie. So is this a pet project of his, a trip down memory lane? Or is it his way of saying "Screw you Behringer!"

Hi guys.

Honestly i am not working for tapco, you guys made me laugh .

I am just happy with the product and I have learnt never to listen always to the guys working in the music shop , I originally brought the yamaha thinking the guy was right.

I mean when i first got the behringer I was iniataly impressed but after using it while I knew there was something lacking .

I know there is loads of stuff out there which is better then the tapco, I hear that soundcraft are good too.

Phonic are meant to be good I did a gig at a wine bar on tuesday and they had a new Phonic mixing desk , it was one of thier pricer ranges but I loved the sound quality.
