hungovermorning

Dr. Caveman.
So, I'm not sure how it's happened. But I have more microphones than anyone could ever even dream about using. Maybe it's because some of them are the neatest looking things or that each and every one sounds a little different and does something a little better. I hang out in this forum a lot and give suggestions/advice on a lot of different mics. I guess I'm just posting this because 1. At least I'm not making up the advice. 2. It's probably the one place in the world where it would be appreciated. 3. When your significant other asks why you need that third microphone, you can send them a link to that crazy mic guy on homerecording.

Anyone else suffering from mic gas, please feel free to post your collection.

Do you have pet names for the all as well?
That's an excellent collection - ecclectic is good & the realization that even the cheapest has something to offer if you know it & it's qualities - nice onehungovermorning.
Oh, & yes it does give you credentials in my book but I'm the dill who built a 5cm sided cylinder cradle for an omni condenser mic! (mind you the results were very good).

I saw a similar collection of arsenal confiscated from Saddams stash...lots of AKG47s or something. You could prob mount a successful coup against the Bush admin with that lot. Very impressive indeed.

Man that's a lot of microphones. A bunch of cool ones too. You suck! :p

You've got some quantity for sure. I like your choices with the M160/260, and stuff like that.
I am not sure I'd chuck a bunch of that stuff and replace it with an RE20, 414, C451, KM84, MD421, etc... as a couple of examples. Maybe a little less quantity in favor of quality.

oh yeah...like those PL5's too.. Great [inexpensive]omni for gtr cabs. Kinda like those 637a that those roving reporter types like to use. :)

Nice pic!

ill take the sm7 if you are ditching it.

nice collection. im trying to avoid that though :)

like previously mentioned, ditch em all and get a 414, re20 etc.
:D

The PL5 is a rebranded 635a. Same mic different color. Excellent omnis, standard in the industry for broadcasting and video, used on hundreds of hit records, cheap, and still in production. I bought my first 635a in 1971.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the compliments.

Chuck it all? Not as much fun! If I sell some of those, I bet I'd never see one again.
There's some equivalents. AKG D12E is my choice of an RE20.
I like my Oktava MKL2500 tube model for a condenser, don't feel like I need a 414.
Those Beyer M81s make a nice variant to the MD421s.

I guess part of it is that I've never liked buying the new stuff from stores. You can get the fun stuff cheaper.

no..NOT it ALL!! ... just the junk!!! But seriously, I can see your equivalents. Some good choices there.
However, maybe keep ONE "good" junk mic... for that rapper dude!! :D

I'm sorry but I dont think a D12 sounds anything like an re-20. you're going to have to get a re-20. :D

I am sorry but I may have to report you to Gear Sluts Anonymous.

If you or one of your friends has a gear problem, call 1-800-Ihave-toomuch-gear.

Hey, do you have one of those long, skinny mics that Bob Barker used on "The Price is Right"? :D
