I've been contemplating for a month or so how I'm gonna set up my low budget recording rig and I'm just looking for some opinions of what yall think. First of all, the hub of all of this will by an Aardvark Q10. I will probably be using CubaseVST as my recording software. Its gonna be set up at home (at my mom's house) Record drums in the basement. It'll add a little ambient reverb (and will probably harbor plenty of standing waves and flutter echos too) and its enough space to set up a kit. Two shure sm57s on the top and bottom of the snare (flipped phase on one of em with the use of my special cable). D112 on the bass drum.. Two condenser overheads, rack tom, floor tom, hi hat (haven't decided on these mics yet). Thats 8. Sound good? Guitars/Bass: set up the speaker cabs in a closet filled with my special sound deadening material (ie coats, blankets). SM57 on the guitar cab, D112 on the bass (of course we'd record the two at separate times). DI the bass on a seperate track. Finally, for the vocals, move the coats aside, duct tape diffusers [egg cartons] and blankets to the wall of the walk in closet. Set up my cardioid condenser of choice and my homemade frame with a nylon streched over it and I have an instant iso booth for vocals. I think this should be a pretty effective setup for relatively little money. What do you think? thanks

how could I forget about mixing???

MIXING: (I almost forgot) - My bedroom has a slanted ceiling and I think because of that it would be a decent place to mix. I know comforters on the walls will only go so far but its gonna have to do for now. I'll probably get a cheap set of yamaha studio monitors or something... I'll just have to get used to the the sonic characteristics of the room (figure out what frequencies are excentuated)

Sounds good, hope you'll be posting a lot more when you start the project :) Good Luck!
