My old Tascam took a crap-- I need advice

well it was only a matter of time. my old cassette studio is done, but I really need to record this album before I go nuts. I have no clue what I need to record on my computer. all I need is 8 basic tracks with no frills whatsoever.
Is there something I can download for free or cheap, or do I need to buy some hardware? I appreciate any advice. thanks

Look into a cheap audio soundcard like and emu or maudio. Then download something like audacity(free) or reaper(very cheap). You'll actually probably get a little bit better sound quality and all can be had for under 200 bucks depending on how many tracks you need to record at once. Go over to tweakheadz.com and read some of the info over there, tweak has several examples of entry level setups.
