My new studio - lots of echo!

The wife kicked my studio out of the spare bedroom at home (long story involving a sexy female). I have moved into an office on the 4th floor of a very old cement building. Problem is the reverb and reflections I am getting off the walls here... I went back and read all the posts about tightening up a room (auralex, owens corning 703, turf on the walls, etc) and am still undecided about the best way to go. I have pictures of my studio on my website, and the last picture shows the 12ft high ceilings this building has, above the 8ft suspended tiles. I have spent nearly all of my savings getting into this place and sure could use some expert advice on the best cost effective way to kill the 1) echo and 2) the slight outside noise from the street (which is only heard when someone with a loud muffler drives by).

Heck no! I wouldn't be able to find anything if I did that!!

FWIW, I have made lots of changes to my studio since those pics, including gluing 1/4" turf (carpet) to the walls. This did muffle some of the reflections, but the room is still nowhere close to what I would like. I am currently checking out the eggcrate foam from Markertek and hoping that will do the trick. Will post some new pics shortly...

All you are doing with that carpet and foam is killing the high end reverb without effecting the low end. You will just end up with a dead but boomy sounding room.

Take off the carpet and put in some bass traps and panel absorbers. Then add some high end absorption very sparingly if needed.

You want the room to sound balanced, not dead.
