My new song. (Boredom Ballad)

I'd like a bit more vocals, although I'm not sure what to suggest. I'd just like to hear more "presence" in the mix. It may be a combination of distance(reverb)/compression.

The backing track(s) seem distorted when I crank this up in my headphones. The vocals seem to stay clean though so I'm thinking there's clipping going on or your distorted patch is just overloading. I'd like a second opinion though ;)

Both these mix things are minor really...The songwriting is great and the playing is excellent. It reminds me of a few pop songs I've heard in the past. Maybe a bit of an Al Stewart vibe in spots....

Thought I'd listen to something else on your page. "Three is a magic number" It has the vocal presence I was referring to above. Very nicely crafted song too....(bit heavy on bass maybe). Anyone reviewing Boredom should check check out "Three"....perfect for any kids show on TV.

Good stuff Adam!

Are you meaning distortion in the rums, or anything particular? I did have a really heavy distorted guitar on there. If it is not too much to ask, what if I posted the multitrack here for mixing? Would you mix it?

Okay - I just downloaded the song to see if it made any difference. Thought it might have been Soundclick's player. It's not. I'm still getting the distortion with a bit of wobble whenever the distorted guitar is going strong. Without it the tune is pretty much fine. It only occurs when I crank the tune full volume. I opened it in SoundForge but the levels are way below clipping. I really need someone else to chime in here . I just got a new laptop and I'm worried that the soundcard or WMP 11 is generating the distortion. Help me out guys :D

Thanks all. As for the clipping, I can't hear anything. And I am really trying.

Good job, man. I too really enjoyed "Three..." (in case I forgot to post on that thread when you put it up).

This is a really nice performance. I like the vocals, the melody and the rhymic interplay between the piano and drums. Not liking the distorted guitar so much myself.

I did a quick A/B between this and "Three..." and I think I get some of what ido is getting at. The vocals jump out a little more on that one with a good kind of bite to them.

Your stuff is cool and kind of unique in my listening experience...so thank you for that.

i pretty much agree with everyone on the vox--they're a little buried.

not digging the distorted guitar either.

but overall, i think it's a fantastic song, and the recording is solid. it's like a more naive/innocent ben folds five. i especially enjoyed the minor chord changes and the sound of your voice.

performance is nailed.

really, nicely done.

I have to agree that the vox are a bit buried. Much better on Three . . .

I hate the distorted guitar. In fact, I'd have to say that all your electronic treatments are your weakest elements. Most people use them to cover up the fact that they have little talent.

You, on the other hand, are a very talented man. I would love to hear you do some straight forward ballads or pop music without all the distracting vampire audio that sucks your attention away from what is otherwise very enjoyable music.

I must admit that I only listened to two songs, but I will surely be back to listen to them all.

I hope I didn't piss you off. I wasn't trying to. :)

Sounds pretty cool, although now my left speaker doesn't work. ARgh

Thanks all. I would like to ask again, if I posted the multi, would anybody like to mix it?

Sure, why not.

If you're willing to post the indivual track files, I'll take a shot at mixing it, and I'm pretty sure many others would do likewise.

Go for it!

Well, here you go. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CUOBP4RG The multitracks for my song. I even included the distorted guitars, for the sake of those who will get great joy of ripping them out. you may take away or add anything you like. Remix it if you feel so inclined. The only thing I ask is that you detail what you did to mix it, put it up for me to hear, and if it is possible, to place the prosessed stems up for download, but that is not required.
