well my friend and I just got most of our gear and im wondering what you all think about this setup. I know its nothing super great but i think it will suit us much better than a fostex mr-8. hehe. heres the gear we have:
computer running home studio
delta 1010 digital audio system
dbx 266XL compressor
yamaha mg10 (for drums)
Audix 6 piece fusion mics
SM-57
a nice little creation station studio desk

this is the setup for now and im sure i can get a pretty good sound out of it.... any ideas or advice is welcome :)

yo what u mean

yo what u mean suit u better then the fostex cuz im about to buy that and a sm 57 mic

do u think the fostex dont work or is a peice of shit ?

cuz i need to know cuz im buying stuff to make my self a home studio

Using a computer will give you a TON more options. :)

That's a pretty good setup to start out with. You'll probably find yourself running into many obstacles down the road though that will prompt the need for you to buy more stuff (like me!).

My setup has been the same for 2 years and is as follows:

Alesis Studio32 Mixer
Echo Layla 24
PC (P4 2GHz,128-MB RAM, 60GB HD) running Sonic Foundry Vegas
Crappy KLH monitors

....and a bunch of mics:
AKG Solidtube
AKG C1000s (x2)
Audio Technica AT4050/CM5 (x2)
Rode NT4
AKG D-112
Audix D1
Audix D2 (x2)
Audix D4
Shure SM-57 (x3)
Samson R11 (x6)

I'm planning on buying a pair of Mackie HR824s and a Mackie SDR-24 pretty soon. I got sick of dragging my computer to some bands rehearsal space to record them.

it depends on what you are doing... in my opinion... the Boss recorder sounds better then the fostex.... dont get me wrong they are greaat machines if you arent recording anything huge but I need to step up a little.

adding to the above...
i have a fostex mr-8. It is good for simple things and very basic mixes. I need something that can handle a little more than that with a much better sound. I think it would be worth it to go with the Boss BR-8 over the MR-8 becuase the boss has more amp simulations and overall i can hear better sound quality in the recordings.

hope that helps you a little bit
