Well, I did it. I went and bought the Brent Averill vintage AUDIX 35102's! A pair, with power supply.
I'm excited. Just want to try them out already.
Hope they give me what I'm looking for, but either way, I know they'll be better than what I'm using now.

Congrats.Bet they are gonna sound great..What pre/pres were you useing before?

Don

Well, I was/am using the ART PRO MPA Dual Channel Tube Mic Pre. Don't get me wrong it's a fine mic pre, and I'll continue to use it, though probably in a lesser capicity, most likely as a line level input for my synth, just to warm those sounds up a bit. But I wanted something a little... higher end. I'm hoping this new pre, with some great mics I have will give me a nice period sound, something remincent of "Cole Porter" or "Nat King Cole".

youll probably be using the art unit in much less capacity now, if at all. I bet the averill is a super sweet unit.

Man, you have like the dream home setup. The setup to look up to

tlm 103
blue mouse
rca 77dx

Averill

Steinberg converters
A grand piano

all I want to know is do you have the right reverb. A pcm91 will make a heck of a difference over the budget $500 bixes out there

Funk on!

Thanks CJ. I wish I had known more about what to buy, and what to stay away from when I was first starting out. Consequently, I have a few things sitting in the closet I'll need to unload. ;)
As for reverb, I use the plug-in that comes with Nuendo
It looks like the attached file. (I'm not really sure how to do screen captures)
If you look closely, you can see it allows for the control of ROOM SIZE, DELAY TIME, REVERB TIME, as well as WET / DRY mix, and a few other parameters in there too. I think it works better than any Microverb or MIDIVerb I've heard. Don't know if thats saying much though. And actually, there's another reverb plug-in in Nuendo, but this one gives control over more parameters.

I have not heard that particular reverb, but I once tried a steinberg reverb and hated it.

I think that even the budget $500 lexicon box will sound more pro than that.

I bet that if you took a pcm70 ($650 used) home to play with for a week, you wont be returning it when you hear what it does to your already excellent chain.

you're probably right
*sigh*
what about the TC Electronics units, have you heard those, or anything good about them?

Buy a Tc m2000 and be very happy.
Or Spend lots of cash on a M3000 and be very happy.
(Or go budget and get a tc m1 and be somewhat happy)
Cant go wrong either way, incredible reverb.
the m2000 and m3000 Kicks the living hell out of any cheap reverb youll find.
