Hi all,
I've just ordered my new DP-02. Looking forward to this baby.
Does anyone have a copy of the DVD tutorial for the DP-02
that Muscians Friend offered on their web site under the DP-02
Any other feedback on the Dp-02 would be helpful !!
thanks:rolleyes:

Congrats!

I don't want to send you on a "gear hunt" even before your DP02's warmed up out of the box, but...

The DP02's preamps are adequate for mics with a hot signal, or very-close mic'ing technique. The gain on the preamps is not on par with other mixers or Portastudios that I'm used to. They are functional, but not stellar. The full gain mode might induce a little unwanted noise, in certain cases that vary with different mics and cables.

The way to address this little issue would be to have or get a small mixer to use for mic preamps, EQ or any other mixing you want to do going into the DP02. I believe a small mixer hooked to the inputs of the DP02 greatly enhances the versatility and utility of the DP02. As always, YMMV.;)

DP-02 Love it

TKS for the input Reel !! I agree on the mixer info...
having played with this unit a bit I love it. It offers just about all I could want in a cheap little recorder for my ideas. I found the DVD video on e-bay for about 25 bucks. It has a lot of info on it. I am sure I will refer to it many times. The one thing i would like is a display that tilts so you can see the display from a seated position. I am thinking about having a "stand" made for it to elevated the unit on an angle so I can see and control it better. Other than that I am trying to master the editing punch-in and punch-out. Maybe I get a footswitch for this function.

Congratulations!

From a fellow DP-02 user (soon to be 2488MKII though). It's a great unit. One little bit of advice...pay VERY close attention to the section in the user's manual that talks about arming tracks. It's a bit tricky at first, but a breeze after you understand it. I tried to attach an addendum (sort of a cheat sheet) that I got from Tascam but the file is too big. You can download it off of their website though...makes thing go much easier when starting out. Good luck!

Hey sailjunkie,
Do you think the DP-02 and 2488MKII will do much working together, such as sync, file swap...anything else?
I am thinking of getting a MkII also and currently have a DP-02.

Hey Wooperman

I don't think the units will sync up. I could be wrong though. I will be keeping my DP02 as a back up unit. I am just about ready to get my hands dirty with the 2488MKII (I have been finishing up a CD with the DP02). Tonight, I will be hooking everything up. Tomorrow, I will try to record a demo on the new unit.

If you folks don't mind, I'd like to add a question to the mix, while we're talkng DP-02 here.

I agree with the above post concerning the way the unit handles a "normal" mic, when recording vocals.

But the unit also has a Phantom Power ability also.

Has anyone noticed when using a mic with Ph Power that the unit is more sensitive to vocals that way, than without Ph Power?

I just have a SM-58 , but if I thought I'd get better results with a Ph P mic
I'd invest in one.

Thanks :)

SM58 for the DP02 ???

I use a sm57 mic and find that this is a great all around mic. Many people would say that this is JUST an amp mic. However if you dont't have a few grand to spend (maybe less)on a dedicated vocal mic the sm57/58 should work just fine!
I have expiremented with Phantom power mics and they are great for vocals
but you cannot get a good depth with an amp. It's a matter of your personal
preferancs...

I have had several months of recording on my DP02 and must say it is a great unit for basic recording. When I say basic I mean that it is GREAT for recording live as well as studio recordings. A great unit for the money

I like mine alot. The only complaint that I have is the weak mic preamp. Other than that, great little portastudio that lives up to the name.
