Hey all!

I thought the best way would be to just give you my Myspace address so you can listen to my stuff and tell me what you think. Here's the link (don't laugh...something went wrong when I was putting it up!):

I think you have a very good voice. certain aspects of your voice remind me of Don Dokken, but I think you have more variation than he does. Your work is finely crafted, and it is obvious you know what you are doing. There is an audience for this type of material, but i can't really say the potential it would have with that audience because, frankly, I typically wouldn't fit in there.

If I were to point out some potential criticisms, I would say to get some more variation and layering into the sound of your music. It sounds somewhat one-dimensional, if you know what I am saying. For instance, you seem to take the same approach to mixing and processing the vocal on every track. I would also try to emphasize the dynamics a little more. And get the bass in there! (my standard line for most rock mixes).

keep it up!

hey thanks Anselm!

that's what I'm looking for...constructive criticism. It's hard to be objective with one's own stuff and it's always better to hear outside viewpoints. Which dynamics do you think I should emphasise on the voice? EQ, compression? I agree with you about the layering, I think I do need more color there...but I'm still learning!

Thanks again!
Cheers;)

joey,
if you're serious about people given your work a critical listen then myspace isn't the place to link to as the compression algorithm they use is awful & the player/streamer even more so.

I know, man...that's why I've put the Supload link in my last mail... I think the quality's a bit better.

I tried to add you as a friend but you have that last name or email to verify, so therefore I cant add you. Ill check out your tunes when I get home from work

When I speaking of the dynamics, I was actually referring to the dynamics of the song itself. In other words, there is very little contrast throughout the music. Imagine cranking up the contrast all the way on a television screen. You would not be able to distinguish anything. It's the same with the music realm. I am not tryign to lecture you, but that is a problem That strikes me.

As for the vox in particular, I would just think about each individual part and how you want that part to be conveyed. Sometimes splashing the same reverb throughout the entire song is actually what you would be looking for. But, it's something you just have to pay attention to and work with to get the feel that you want. With your music I think there would be some options for you.

hope that helps.

Hey joeym - that's quite the excellent bio on myspace.

Performance - you have an outstanding classic rock/metal sound and feel. The vocals are great. The gutar playing and drum patterns equally good.
Mix - I think the mix is good. The compression seems a bit on the heavy side but this is not unusual in this day and age (unfortunate but not unusual). I would personally prefer less compression (same as anselm said).

Good luck on your CD and touring...

:D

hey, thanx to all of you !

Anselm, I read you and promise to work on what you said on my next songs.....the learning process never ends.

ido1957, - wow, now that is a compliment! Yes the compression is a bit heavy, but when I started recording the tracks about a year and a half ago, my equipment was less than what I have now, so I had to make the best out of the mixes. But you're right, I have to try not to squash everything.

liv-rong, I would be honoured to have you on my friend list. If you still get problems just give your myspace link and I'll add you.

Thanx again and don't be afraid to criticise ....;)
