Whats up?Jethro Tull is one of my all time favorite bands and I thought it would be fun to try to cover one of there more "pop" type songs .I chose the song "Bungle In The Jungle " from the Warchild album......a song that used to be on the radio constantly back in the day,and I actually used to always turn off, being a bit of a Tull snob and preferring the "deeper cuts" ...anyways its a pretty cool song, and the flute was kinda minimally involved in it,soooo I decided to give it a whirl. I did replace the flute intro with some jazzy acoustic guitar type thing using my trusty Variax...actually all guitars are done with the variax except for the bass, which I used a peavey t-40.All guitars /bass recorded thru a Pod xtlive. As usual my vocals are in the tradition of William Hung, but oh well...I'm just having fun paying homage to the music I loved growing up.Here is the link:

So what's ill advised about Tull covers?

Heh. I've done a good number of Jethro Tull covers, although I've posted only one or two of 'em. Jethro Tull covers rule!

You have a T-40, too? Man, you're my hero!! ;)

Nice intro, really gives the song a brand new feel.
The music mix sounds excellent to me.
Sounds like the vox could use a little more presence when you're singing without the backup vox. They're hard to understand on my system during the verses.
Ha, if this makes any sense, the acoustic instead of the flute almost at 2:05 almost gives it a sea feel instead of a jungle, very cool though
Electric solos and tone are excellent.
In the last part when you solo over the chorus, I'd actually fade back the vocals a tad and let the guitar take over.
Awesome man, really enjoyed this! :D

Dude....2 thumbs up man....cool tune.

I dig what you've done man.....that aint no William Hung singing..... :D

Nice playing....very interesting stuff you did.....Nice.

Love it man....

A Reel Person - Uh oh...do I see a Tull cover thread in the future? :p ..that would be cool, although Tull seems to be a band that people either really dig , or really hate :D !!Which Tull have you covered?I'm gonna hit your site and check em' out!

SnakeDog5050 - Thanks for the listen and the cool ideas!I tried the vocal faed at the end over the guitar wanking...sounded better..thanks!I am mixing it down and will update the link shortly!Thats funny you mentioned the "Sea feel" to the acoustic parts,my buddy said the same thing when I played it to him today...maybe I should add some seagull wav'z to that part..hmmn.I also added a bit of a boost to the highend of the lead vox. That also will be in the updated mix. Thanks alot for the feedback man...I really appreciate it!!

Dogman - Thanks for the good vibes on the tune...glad you dug it!You know how I am about my vocals...I actually left the lead vox on this pretty dry (for me)...wish I could get that growl, power like you get on yours..but still pretty timid on the singing...maybe a few shots of some liquid courage would help. :p Oh yeah...nice avator on your name..I'm digging that!

Hey dude..just checked out "Cross Eyed MAry"...lottsa energy on that one!I dig the bass guitar...nice and raw!

Cool cover man, havent given the warchild much play time, as My dissapointment was huge after my facination with a passion play.

After hearing this I have to pick it up again and give it a listen again.
great playing, cool vox.
Great arrangment.
good clean recording.

You do a mean Martin Barre :)

Again great work buddy

I agree....this turned out pretty cool Dave.... :D

We need the Ghost of FM to weigh in here! He was the mercurial front man who once wrecked a borrowed RX7 of the internationally acclaimed Tull cover band Short Sircuit who did some original material that was frequently requested including Get The @#$% Off The Stage and Shut The *&^% Up.

That outro solo is super tasty....

The whole tune has a good groove and is pretty true to the original with its up tempo feel.

You always get such great tones on your axe.

Those drums are great, must have taken a while on those.....

Liked it a lot..... :)

Always liked this song, you certainly do it justice.

I like the double tracked vox and the guitar. Good job on this one

Warchild is one of my favorite albums!!

I've given it lots of spin time! I'm very familiar with it, and I like it very much. I'm also one of the "deeper" cuts enthusiast, when it comes to classic rock.

I remember in 1976(?),... (whatever year Warchild was released),... and the time I was listening to "Bungle in the Jungle" off the LP. My dad walked by my room and said,... "Bungle in the Jungle??? Oh my god! What on earth are you listening to???" I still remember that to this day, and how I thought my dad was so tragically unhip,... which he was. He used to listen to the Beatles and say, "It's nothing but a bunch of 'whang-whang-whang'!!!" Nowadays he's all like,... "the Beatles are cool",... mainly (I think) because most of the classic Beatles tunes have been adapted to "elevator-style/easy-listening" pop covers,... and that's about his speed.

Anyway, Warchild rules! I'd like to cover more Tull songs, and maybe record something new,... but in the meantime I'll keep rolling out the old stuff from the vast Davemania archives!!

Hey Nak..whats up?Yeah, Warchild was a big chanf=ge from the previous 2 Tull albums....I think Ian was pissed off with the bad reviews Passion Play recieved and kinda went into a song orinted album rather then the concept album thing...Warchild is kinda a transistion album to me between 2 diffrent periods of Tull. There are some pretty cool songs on it ,I really like "Skating Away(On The Thin Ice Of A New Day..)","Warchild","Queen And Country", and "RAinbow Blues",which was a bonus cut on the remastered version.
Glad you dug my version...it was fun to try and play ol' Martin's licks...he is very under rated in my opinion as a guitarist.
Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks man!Cool you like the solo during the end of the tune...kinda self indulgent by me I guess, but it was better then just the vocals repeating the chorus into the fade...if I could only put some flute in there!
The drums were loops from Cakewalks drag and drop drummer...

Thanks, did the vocals alot "dryer" then I usually do...big step for me...still not to happy with the verses, the lyrics are kinda wordy and I have a hard time with the cadence of singing em' in time(if that makes ay sense  ) but I like how the chorus sounds...
Thanks for listening!

Beautiful ac guitar solo at 2:09 (could have been longer), then switching to elec with a nice build up and contrast.
