So first with the obligatory disclaimers: Im a drummer so the guitar playing stinks,in fact I made this up last night so keep that in mind.

Just wanted to get some input/advice on the mix and sounds. Im not really diggin the cymbal sound so far...seems washy, but i need advice all across the board.

Fire away...here's the link.

I rather enjoyed that actually. Catchy tune, good driving music to be sure. But you were right about the guitar playing; it really felt barely together during the solo.

You might also consider a smaller crash that doesn't reverberate for so long.

And you should change/remove the bending notes in the background. They're not in tune and I felt they detracted more than they helped.

Also, there was what sounded like an amp buzzing at the end. I'd recommend you clear that up.

Yea it was really hard playing drums to my crappy guitar playing. Im just practicing recording right now for when i record the whole band.

Im stuck with what i got as far as cymbals go, i may move around the overheads and see what happens.

What technique did you use to get that nice stereo guitar sound at about 0:05 in the intro?

Umm..Im not sure what your refering to i guess.I did four guitar parts mostly because i kept screwin up...well 3 and that weird lead part that sounds terrible on my laptop speakers...well maybe on any speakers.
Did i mention im not a guitar player? obviously..lol.

Don't keep bashing yourself, your guitar playing wasn't that bad. Not in my ears, anyway.

Thanks, sometimes its hard for some people, including myself, to hear past performance and just listen to the recording.

I thought the guitar playing was pretty cool on this actually. I consider myself to be primarily a guitarist but probably couldn't just pick up the drums and play well. I'm thinking drums may generally just be more difficult than guitar (which seems plenty difficult enough for me)...?

Anyway, I like the one sort of sliding guitar part which reminded me of some smashing pumpkins lick or something. I get what the other guy was saying about the bending notes in the background, but I thought it sounded kind of cool and wondered if you might do more of that and throw some effects on it for added in interest?

Mix-wise, I thought there were a number of issues, but I am by no means an expert...after a few listens, I thought the kick / bass region could be cleaned up some. The kick sounded kinda woofy and maybe too loud, while the bass was a bit rumbly. I thought the cymbals sounded pretty good. I dunno...

You could clean up the beginning a little I think and maybe chop off the last 3 minutes or so of the metronome...:)

Im going to work on it some more tomorrow night and am honestly go thru all the advice i get here and tweak it....in fact i may just redo it.

As a drummer its hard for me to turn down the kick....but yea it may be a little loud.

I used a pre on my over-heads and i think its just too saturated?

and yea i need to edit the begining and end.

You could use more reverb on the snare, too dry for my taste. I'm not sure how you recorded this but if you don't have an ambient or room track then add it digitally. Kick needs more bite, a little rise on 5khz will do the job. Concerning the guitars, they're OK, and I'm a guitar player, nothing to complain about.
