My first real drum recording

Howdy,

The kid across the street asked if he could bring his drums over and play. I said sure (hell yeah).

We finished playing, and he left the drums in my studio.

So for the rest of the day I was in hog heaven with something new to try to record. You know the feeling.

By the end of the day, I finally found a mic placement and EQ that seemed to work.

I'm completely new at recording drums. So criticism would be greatly appreciated.

This recordng was done with my brand new digital mixer!

BTW; I am not a drummer, so concentrate on the sound please.

The stereo delay made me dizzy. It's waaaaay too much, makes it hard for me to concentrate on the drum sounds themselves.

Yeah, since it's just drums, I thought delay would make it more interesting, allbeit heavy handed.

I'm still pretty happy with the tone though.

I find it sounds right even when I go away for awhile and come back to it. My ears don't have to adjust. Also I think it plays well loud.

Aside from the delay, I'd like to know how it sounds on others peoples speakers, tone wise.

I just have Creative Pc speakers here at work, so that might be the culprit, but I didn't hear much kick in there.

What kind of drumset did he have?
 
Hard2Hear,

They are Pearl, one tom and floor tom. One crash and one ride, a very basic set.

I wasn't playing very loud, and really have no technique, I'm sure I wasn't hitting the kick hard enough.

I think you real drummers probably play a lot louder than the average novice (me).
