my first computer recording setup... how is it ?

I have around $1500 to spend on recording gear.
Right now I dont have a great laptop. So I have to buy a computer.

The gear I have right now:
>blue bird mic
>hafler power amp and a set of speakers.

What im looking to record :
>acoustic and electric guitar, vocals, synths and drum machines
> I play music like .. beck, dandy warhols,david bowie

What I was thinking of getting :
MusicXPC Professional C1 Express computer and a presonus firepod

how does that sounds ?
any other suggestions ?

I already read the Home Recording for Dummies. I have already had a stand alone recording setup (Boss BR1600CD) . Im just kinda wondering about the computer really. The MusicXPC Professional C1 Express is never really talked about. I was wondering if anyone ever tried it out.
