Rock Steady
My First bass was a Kay double cutaway I paid $25 for it, 5 down and 5 a week from a paper route when I was 13.

My first bass amp was a Sears Silvertone mono tape recorder with 6" reels and a 2" speaker. I had to ride my bike 3 blocks with the bass tied with a belt on the handlebars to my Buddie`s house. It was his Dad`s tape recorder. I got a blue OO7 amp for Christmas later that year. It had 1 knob and a 4" speaker. The Rascals released their first album the next year.

My first bass was a Yamaha Attitude Standard that I bought January 2nd, 1993, new for 895 guilders. At that time, the most expensive thing I bought by far. I had never really even touched a bass before but I just felt bass would be my instrument. And it still is.

It now hangs on a hook on the wall, stripped of frets and paint. I still occasionally play on it.

My first bass amp was a Samick SM15-B, 15 watts practice amp. I still own it but it has been at a friend's for at least 2,5 years now. The friend had a bass but no amp and I had no use for it. I use it when I'm there.

I got my first bass around 74. My mom bought it fo me at a pawn shop. I think the brand was Trump. We also got this huge amp with 6 10' spearkes in it that was made by Sears.

I played it for about 5 years and then I heard Bootsy Collins for the first time and I thought "I'll never be able to play like that." So, I swaped the bass for a guitar and been with that ever sence.

I played thru that lil 4" speaker until it died. After hearing the Young Rascals album I wanted to be an organist but Mom couldn`t afford one so I got a Hilgen bass amp with 2 10" speakers for christmas. I traded my bass and 50$ for a Fender jazz that looked like it had been drug behind a truck. It didnt have knobs on the shafts of the pots and I had to put a screw on the top horn to hold the strap on.

My first bass was a '76 percision; au natural. Followed it up with a bassman 100 head and two 4X10 cabinets. Boy did I suck!

Yeah but you thought you were cool as smoking grits. The fun you had at the time was well worth the reality discovered later on.

'somewhere around '69 I bought a Kustom 400 stereo with 2 3x15" cabinets on a payment plan. I kept it switched on stereo and rented half of it to a guitar player to help me make the payments. When he wouldn`t come up with any cash each month for the payment I`d reach up and put it on mono until he payed me. After about 4 months he decided he`d buy his own amp instead of renting. I was playing a early '60`s Moserite semi-hollow body bass. I still have it.
