I'm trying to look up information on the harmonic series (fundamentals, overtones, etc) but I can't look up anything in detail enough to satisfy what I'm trying to achieve here.

Wikipedia has something decent, but seems simplified.

Anyone care to direct me to the most recent *detailed* report(s) on the musical harmonic series? It can be internet and/or book.

I'm talking berkley level. Not cliff notes level.

Thanks in advance.

SWEET!

But actually, there are some books there that are at least worth checking out. Thanks for the heads up...any others are appreciated.

Whatcha doing anyway? You looking for something like a detailed map for each orchestral instrument or sumthin'?

Almost, which is funny, cause Katz's book has that chart (if you where refering to the carnegie chart).

Honestly, it's just for personal knowledge. I get these sudden needs to elaborate on some stuff that I tell myself I will eventually get back to.

Plus I got into a discussion about speakers the other day with a sales rep for JBL and that sort of eventually came up.

So I guess I'm just curious to know too much on the harmonic series.

we should do it right here.

isn't it related to the pythagorean theorem?

I *think* that the subdivisions are created by dividing the frequency by prime numbers.

1/1 1/2 1/3 1/5 etc....

which gets you R, R^1, 5th...I forget after that.

sorry this doesn't really help. I ain't got no links.

I Know this is an old thread but I can't help but see this as Mathematics invading my precious music.

Whymeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Also I know nothing of any use

SORRY
