My first AI song using SUNO

I hear you, brother.
Seeing as how I’m not getting any younger, I’ve been cycling the idea to produce completely artificially everything I’ve ever done.
And then I’m gonna get a big giant block of granite and have some burly rock worker fit a solar panel on top of it.
to power a USB stick connected to some speakers so whenever anybody rolls up on my gravesite, they can piss on a wet pad, and all of my songs will play.

Yea.. me to0
I can't tell for sure, but I'm assuming you're being sarcastic here. I'm not sure why.

I personally can't understand why people involved in creative artistic endeavors (as we all are here) are excited about or are singing the praises of AI in any way.

I especially hate the way it's being marketed by companies like Suno specifically:

"I finished five songs in one day!" - No, you didn't. The computer finished five songs.
"Suno makes everyone a musician!" - No, it doesn't. It makes everyone prompt-writers for a program that creates music.

I mean ... is this what we really want? Do we want AI to make all our music now? Do we want to live in a world where, every time we hear a song on the radio, we have to wonder whether a human was involved in it? Because ... with the speed at which this AI tech is spreading, I think that world could be right around the corner, much less 10 years away.

I sure don't want that.

And that's not even mentioning the environmental effect of all this BS. I personally don't want to use up half the country's power grid to generate pictures of people wearing belts with no buckle or playing guitars with five - no, six, - no, five again - no, four, actually - strings on it.

But I guess I'm old fashioned that way.

There is excitement for me with Suno.

For me, if it sounds good, it is good.

That’s as far as I go with it.

But let’s be real—Suno is not causing the sun to go black.

Yes, I’ve seen the arguments about power consumption.

People locally have protested their construction.

People in Tennessee are suing Musk—etc. It goes on.

The company I retired from has taken on a lot of work recently because of data centers.

We engineer and build power plants, HRSGs.

People I know have work—that’s good, right?

And data centers are not exclusively for AI.

I could Google it—at a cost to the environment—but I suspect the governments and businesses' carbon footprints are way larger.

That’s no concern to me.

I still drive a gas engine.

I throw batteries in the trash.

I’m a bad citizen—sue me.

PS: You tangent off into AI video—this thread is not about that.

I purposefully posted here in the Songwriting forum, and I hoped the topic would stay focused on that.

Peace :)

New to the Forum. Howdy

I “came back” to music making after a 20 yr. hiatus, you know; life happens. Raised great kids, good career, built a business, retired (mostly) and now a studio and music production company.
I write songs. I’m admittedly a weak guitarist (was always a drummer) but I create therefore “we are here” aren’t we?
AI and commercial quality music production: OMG!

I stumbled onto Suno via this thread. A guy, I collaborate with from time to time sent me a “freebie” track months ago. I blew it off. Till last week when I discovered three things:

1) Warner Music Group joined in. Yeah, they dropped the lawsuit, but they’re smart and deep pocketed. They sued the small guy to make a point and drive a stake in the ground. Google & Meta are the big boys in this realm.

2) BMI, ASCAP in late October has agreed to PRO partially produced (as much as only lyrics by human creation) songs for payment

3) Manslick’s thread

I’m a purist and a realist. I believe in the sonic value of analog and human production in great places, yet I embrace production in the box. I first saw ProTools in the 90’s in LA and thought then; “it’s coming”

AI is here and it will never “quit coming”
I akin it’s advent to what the DAW has done to studios. I live in Nashville half the time, blocks from music row. Studios are becoming little more than drum booths these days. Of course, there’s still dominant studios doing lots of work.

IMHO, what DAW did to Sound City, AI will do to a lot (not all of course) human musician composition and production.
The most vulnerable are already phasing; sync composers.

Our publishing company is not offended by it. We are reconsidering how much to expand our studio, if at all.
We are in…..eyes wide open.

Cheers

Song - writing.

Interesting that you mentioned that, when that's exactly one of the musical arts (not to mention production, arranging, recording, etc.) that's being replaced by AI.

I mean ... we've got AI "artists" on the charts now. And people are ok with this? I've never been one for slippery slope arguments, but this to me seems the slipperiest slope I've ever come across.

But whatever ... do what you do. To each his own.

Peace

Hey @Manslick heres one that I just did this morning. Goofy lyrics are original, penned by my song writing band mate Maurice. We did it to a country style cause the lyrics kinda go with country music. We were never gonna try and record this song using traditional recording methods which is why I gave it the AI treatment. Fun to do.

I watched Rick Beato the other day.

He said many pros he knows are using AI for a variety of reasons.
Well we know the root reason. Money.

I love it. Made me smile.
I think this is very accessible.
I get a strong gospel vibe.
I like the way this song stays reigned in a bit. It would be extremely easy for the robot to flex its muscles and do guitar solos with 1 billion notes or a drum solo with 1 trillion beats. But this stays traditional.
I didn’t think the lyrics were goofy. I thought they were clever.
You did fool me on one point — I thought for sure you would rhyme law with crawl lol.
Thanks 🙂

TBH...nah forget honest I'm going to lie through my teeth...well of what I have left anyway.

It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

100% I love it and I hate it at the same time...seems to be an ongoing thing in life right? I stumbled upon some other AI music generator, oscillator, make a circuit with me kind of sites and I am gravitating to Sonauto That said having a fun "deep dive" conversation with that two faced Gemini AI we discussed the phenomenon of AI music in China. It appears they are a lot more wild west than us and no holds barred...so the AI music thing has gone bonkers there...

Here's some of their apps

I'm seventeen again.
Rolling home with my girl/
On the speakers is music.
She don't diss me.

My corner is green.

tae

I am a boozed up old man.
My sand is near the pit.
I don't care about nothing but the sound
Nothing but the sound

my mighty hill is one of a sound field
where robots reap the yield
puppeteer's make me dance
in my present stance

i am alone on my filthy hill
the sonic sirens are tin foil
who hold me eyes filled
with solace long gaze

keep me up on the ceiling
push me like a mosh pit feeling
french kiss my willing mouth
keep the pulse or die trying

up up, coffee, booze, snort a shot of O2
take a sniff of my putrid ass
or push me off the bash
like a worn out condom

and when i rise on a fragile day
you look at me with crystal eyes
i come to not surprised
i hear me say -- is it the party day

booze on queues is my Christmas wish
pour it down my dying throat
to leave this turning bitch
on hope i can board the Viking boat
to nirvana
to middle earth
where the light makes me look good

Hey remember that Twighlight zone episode "I sing the body electric"
Who is Dylan Money
C'mon man...it's a term we used to use back in the 70's....when we were in rock bands heading to the tippy tippy top of the tippy tippy top.
Dylan money is all the big money we made by writing cool lyrics and rock folk songs...ya know like man we made a lot of money...I mean like "Dylan money"...But ya know money is the root of evil . I was hanging with Zimmerman the other day and he swore that money don't talk, it swears. :laughings:

So is this poem AI or earthling generated?
