I'm so proud!

The girls are 8, 11, and 12. The 11 year old is the songwriter, principal singer, and choreographer. They sing pretty good harmony. Hope to have them on YouTube eventually, see if we can't kick-start something.

What a blast! No better combination than kids & music. Have fun watching that grow--and share something with us as soon as there's something to share. :D

That's great! Encourage them, praise them, support them, but never push them. I've had a ball watching my boys (17 & 18 now) grow and develop their musical abilities over the years. Keep the right attitude and you can have as much fun as they do.

Wheelma,

This is awesome. My son was the one who got me interested in recording, and it's really become a cool thing for the family. Hope it does for you too.

You should see the productions that they throw for us from time to time. I always kind of wondered how girls become cheerleaders, and now I have a daughter who acts like she was born to the role. Not too sure how happy I am about that though.

I've got a singer, dancer and all around ham in my 7 year old. I am seeing enough talent to want to develope it, but I am taking it slow. I did manage to get her on video doing a Celine Dione song. Maybe one day, I'll post it.

Congrats on the music and kids thing! I know first hand what a blast it is.

you are lucky

all my seven year old does is move all my mics on the drum kit that i've spent hours positioning to get the right sound, and unplug leads and replug them in elsewhere.
dam those connections why do they all have to be the same jack/xlr

maybe he's going to be an engineer:D

Congrats!

I'm starting mine already...he's 10 months old!

Hopefully he'll be better at it than I am...

Oh, and pay no attention to the ugly dude with the guitar.

That's it! Get 'em started early. Just wait til he's old enough to scratch his initials in your guitar. That's when you gotta love 'em, cause there's no choice!!!

I tried to post that video on myspace, but apparently it's too big. I lost the only program I could use to shrink it, so I'll have to wait until I find something as good to redo it.

Any suggestions?

When you find it, make sure you post it. I know nothing about YouTube.

I played in bands in the 80s, then had my first daughter in 1991 and went musically dormant shortly afterward (except for playing acoustic around the house a few days a week). In mid 2005, I was at a buddy's 40th b-day party and he and I broke out his electric guitar and amp as my now two kids (14 year old daughter, 10 year old son) watched. On the ride home, my daughter said she wanted to play, so I dove in the closet, pulled out the old electrics and the amp. Over the next year, she insisted on lessons, didn't really practice or do much, but in the background, my son was picking up the guitar and self-teaching.

Today, he's 13, and pretty darned good and has a room full of amps :) and plays bagpipes! - my now 17 year old daughter never really learned much but is still sympathetically interested and may learn to sing. As a bonus, we had another daughter in late 2006, and she's been wrapped up in the activities solidly -- plays mostly handheld percussion and sings and places mics,

and gets a big kick out of grabbing the pick away from me and throwing it in the soundhole of my acoustic :D repeatedly :D

I don't have kids yet but I am sure they will be as bad as me :D

My sisters kids though are singing harmony and the oldest shows great talent with the piano!

I got the video posted now:

I have it set so that you can only comment or rate it if you are my friends list, but that's to keep assholes from saying anything negative about it. Sorry...

My 7 year old used to do something like that when she was 3. Only she would take the pick away so she could strum the guitar instead!;)

She could also sing in key at that age, and used to sing my songs when I would play them...

Congrats on the son... my 14 year old nephew started real early with guitar too, and he can blow my doors off now!
