After the AES convention closed for the day on Monday,
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Harvey and his family
(his son Alex is a top flight engineer too BTW), along with
such "notables" as Dave Martin, Mike Rivers, Fletcher, et al
at dinner that evening.
For those not acquanted with the above names, these guys
(& some gals there too) are the "real deal".

They were kind enough to give me some valuable tips and
hints, in addition to shattering some pre-conceived notions
over this or that being of practical importance when recording.
Fletcher even bought EVERYONE a round of drinks! (40+ people)
Harvey's friend Alex from the 60's group "Sweetwater" was
loads of fun to dine with too. Harvey and Alex told me some
great stories of various artist and bands they were connected to
over the years. It reminded me of the "chess phase" when I went
to my first big tournament and got to meet the top International
Masters and Grandmaster players from around the world.

If everyone in the music industry had the same passion we'd
surely be hearing better music on the radio today.
It made me realize even MORE how lucky we are to have people
like Harvey (and Alan Hyatt!) hanging out here with us.

Thanks Harvey,
Chris

Sorry about how the paragraphs on the last post came out
so dis-jointed!

Of course you know we all hate you now!
-hob-knobbing with the big boys, look at your bad self!:D

I want to start going to AES and NAMM.:(

how would one go about getting involved in those confrences, and those people??
i have a feeling it's a little more than re-locating to LA
Mike...

I had dinner once with the guy who played Schneider on "One Day at a Time."

Also had a beer with "Mr. T" (of the ever-famous A-Team and that one Rocky movie).

Pat Harrington is cool, I met him at the local classic rock station once.

I once had dinner with Loretta Lynn, and she had a heart attack.

"hob-knobing"

Well, if it makes anyone feel better, I didn't make it to the AES convention
until exactly 6PM when it "officially" shuts down the booths!
Due to that four letter word called WORK.

Anyway...
I was relieved to find out that not only are the pros more gear obsessed
than we are, most of them are very outgoing and happy to share their
expertise. (like that's surprising at basically a giant GEAR conference)
The main way to meet them is, oddly enough. going to an event like
this one. Just make sure you hide your check book safely away in case
severe gear lust strikes like "If I use that RADAR recorder for the next
20 years it REALLY only costs about $250 a year" or you think
"No payments until next year" means it's free (right now).

Chris

P.S. No direct selling is allowed on the exhibit floor BTW, only drooling.

Remind me to never have dinner with you.

She was the only one this has happened to. We were eating with ten others, this was in 1980 and I was twelve and with my parents, my cousin Tuffy was a promoter and owned the KC Opry at the time. I met alot of country artists at the time. I remember being cussed out by Little Jimmy Dickins (may a bird of paridise fly up your nose) backstage when I was 11.
