My Delta 66 disappeared!

This might be an easy question to answer, but I didn't see anything in the help or the manual. Maybe I missed it something, but assuming I didn't ...

A few weeks ago I was recording (I use SONAR 3.0) one night and everything was fine. Then when I went back to that project the next night I had an odd problem. My Delta 66 card was suddenly invisible. It didn't seem to be a SONAR specific problem because it didn't show up in the device manager. When I brought up the Delta's software mixer it said there are no Delta devices on my PC.

I finally got that resolved and Windows again sees both my Delta and SoundBlaster cards. Everything seems fine outside of SONAR, but SONAR still doesn't see the Delta.

When I opened up existing projects and when I opened up a new project, the Delta does not appear in the list of devices for audio tracks. I only saw the SoundBlaster. I also went into Options -> Audio and that only the SoundBlaster appears there.

Is there a way to tell SONAR to go look for audio devices? And I know this isn't a SONAR/Cakewalk specific problem, does this sound like a problem anyone has seen before? I posted the question a few weeks ago in the Computer Recording and Soundcards forum and a few people offered suggestions but nothing helped.

run the wave profiler under TOOLs-> audio options or delete the aud.ini in the sonar directory

Dang, that was a fast response. Thanks.

Actually, I did re-run the WAV profiler and it only found the SB. However, I didn't delete the aud.ini file. I can try that when I get home tonight. What creates/recreates that file, the WAV profiler?

after you del the aud.ini when you start sonar it should redetect all you cards but before you start sonar make sure that the delta 66 is getting detected by your computer by going into the delta's conrol panel

Turn off your PC, pull the card out of its slot and put it back in (yep, the same slot). Turn on PC. I'm sure your OS will recognize it....

I get it with some of my PCI devices too sometimes. The aforemention procedure always solves the problem.

Pedullist, reseating the card was one of the first things I tried (after uninstalling and reinstalling the driver) but that unfortunately did NOT solve the problem. I too have had some success doing that on my home PCs and the systems I manage at work, but not this this time. The only thing that worked was swapping the slots that my Delta and my SoundBlaster were in. I don't know if the cards were interfering with each other somehow, but things were working just fine for about 6-7 months until now.

Also, the O/S does see the card now. The problem is that SONAR still doesn't see it.

Thanks though. :D

Did you check options/audio/drivers and see if they were enabled?

Sonar looks for the aud.ini file upon start-up. If it doesn't find it, it profiles the sound card and creates a new ini file. However, except for profiling the sound card, it sets everything else to default values. As such, you lose any tweaks you might have done.

As for your immediate problem, this might be an issue with WDM vs MME drivers. What OS are you running? Are you using WDM drivers for the Delta? What about for the SB?

What you might try is disabling the Sound Blaster in Options>Audio in Sonar. Then set both the project and sound card bit rates to 24. Set the driver mode to WDM (assuming you are using the WDM drivers for your Delta). Then exit Sonar and re-enter. See if detects and profiles your Delta upon the new start-up.

This is painful to admit but ...

... no I didn't. I missed something that obvious. Once I enabled them everything was once again working in all its WDM/KS, 24-bit glory.

Guys, thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

Computer Tech Support Guy: So, is it plugged in?

User: Errrrrrrr, no.

:D :D :D :D :D

Glad you got it straightened out.

Great, you had to rub it in with that kind of analogy. I AM a computer tech support guy ...

:D :o  :p

Hello, yes, I broke the cup holder on my computer, the one that comes out... you know, the cup holder...

You know, I didn't *have* to come clean ... :D

WTF, I may as well get in on the act too ...

"How many times do I have to tell you? I am *NOT* running under windows?!?! The computer is on an inside wall and there's no such thing as a window on an inside wall!"

I actually don't hear that one too often. I'm primarily a Unix person.
