I have a really low budget and really not any space to work in...I play punk music and im not looking to make great quality recordings, just demos. Right now i have a zoom mrs-4, mrt-3, and a behringer ub1202. I was wondering if i should maybe sell my mrs-4 and put money towards a used computer to set up somethin with more flexibility cause i have alot of programs on disks...so right now it seems like a good idea. I know that zoom doesnt get great recording quality, but i was wondering if i could really get much better with a computer. The room im in is my bedroom. Its got one concrete wall, three sheetrock walls, washer and drier...all that shit with no acoustic treatment or anything. Im also wondering if its more worth it to try to fix the room, or get some equipment and wait until my brother moves out and i can get a better room of my house.

yes you can

if it were me. new duron / athlon pc systems can be found on the net or in computer stores. a duron 1.3ghz thats used even will give you 40 tracks recording. a good software i use is powertracks 29 bucks. sounds with respect that you need some help.
hop on over to the pgmusic.com powertracks forum. lots of very helpfull pro's on there as well that will help you get going.
they are vey helpfull people.
once you get your computer you can try out lots of demoes from the music software section of hitsquad.com.
try powertracks as i said, magix audio studio, n track, traktion,
and multitrack studio.
all superb pkges for multitrack recording imho.
if you cant get a hit using one of them i would suggest a period
of heavy learning of audio engineering.
get a good few mics and a good soundcard and your good to go.
you could use the existing mic pre's in the zoom to send to the sound card or sell the zoom and use the behringer pre's.
till you save up for better pre's.

thanks..ive been looking into computers and everything for a while. I have acid and cakewalk so i figured that would be a good way to go. I know a pretty good amount about recording from reading, not from expereince. Right now im lookin at gettin some new mics, then ill look into gettin a new computer. I was thinkin about just goin down to the local computer place and buy a used one with like 933Mhz, atleast 512 ram and a decent sound card. Do you think that would be more worth it then to look for a new one?

unless you can get that under 150 bucks i wouldnt bother.
here where i am stores charge 299 for fast 2 ghz systems.
if you want to save bucks on mics look for an article by "tapeop"
how to make your own mics for 20 bucks. believe it or not they are pretty good. or check out apexelectronics.com i think it is. cheap mics.
