the computer is showing 100% cpu power in the windows task manager and sonar is showing 10% which would you trust ?

the only thing i can maybe put it down to is one of the 1010 cards is sharing an irq with the graphics card.

would a reasonably fast graphics card (pci express radion 800xl)pull alot of band width away from the card ?

i've tried to move the irq but nothing seams to work !! one of the two 1010 cards always ends up sharing with the graphics card.

thanking anybody who repies in advance ......

Please give us the basic specs of your machine??.....anyways...
MyCEP2.1 machine runs at 50% when loaded up...just FYI. (2Ghz and 750mRam.)

mmmmmmmmm.....go back into task manager>goto 'processes' tab>press "cpu' tab>you should see a 'priority' of programs hogging cpu bandwidth. The one on the top of the list? Check it...is it suppose to be running...are there any programs that u can see that shouldnt be running. Use the 'end process' tab at the bottom to shut things down that you don't need.(after hi-lighting them first)..then monitor your recource meter from there. (Windows shouldnt allow u to switch off things that it needs...u cant really break anything here,...so go hard!
Window Task manager is probably the one you should be looking at.
hope that helps.
ps...maybe do a run>'msconfig' check to see wot shit starts up when you turn on your computer....enialate any programs that you don't want starting, just because you started your computer.

are you sure the task manager saying it is using 100% of your cpu power? Check again... what is the program using it btw?

Read the above posts that your friends have sent you and get back to us.

i think i've sorted it ..... reinstalled windows and all the drivers and software..

no change 100% cpu power !!!!!!!

installed sonar 4 ,everything works as it should ,it looks like sonar 3 has a problem with new pci express grahic cards or motherboards.

has anyone else had any problems with upgrading pc's with audio software ?

Oh my that sounds serious. Which process is eating up all the CPU? Go to task manager to check that.

um... are you looking at the System Idle Process sitting at 100%? because it's suppose to be like that.

no i was looking at the performance tab cpu usage 100%

in the processes tab sonar was running at 100%

well before I ask a question, when you reinstall windows, is that from a fresh windows xp cd? or is it one of those recovery cds?

When you reinstall windows (fresh install) what programs did you install. I would ask about the drivers, but usually drivers don't cause your cpu usage to be at 100%.

When I run Sonar 5 Pro, & use it, my cpu usage is usually at 20-25%, that's with dual core 3.2ghz though.

Is it only when you are running sonar? or is it always at 100%.

Start-->Run-->type msconfig-->Startup tab-->Disable all. Then go to the Services tab and click Hide all Microsoft Service and then click disable all.

Start-->Control Panels-->Performance and Maintenance-->Administative Tools-->Services-->[/B]on Indexing Service-->Properties and where it say startup time click and select Disabled.

It could be spyware, but I really doubt it since you wiped out your system & installed clean.

It's most likely just your cpu "doing something" usually in background when the system is somewhat idle. Things like Norton, spyware removal tools, etc will keep your cpu very active. Most likely it isn't really a problem unless it's spyware. It's like, your brain constantly always have to think. If you didn't think, you would be shut down.

thanking everyone for there input and ideas

installing sonar 4 seems to have cured whatever was causing it

it looks like sonar 3 has a problem with pci express graphic cards or motherboards.
