When I'm not at practice i use a little stereo instead of my half-stack. And my computer is hooked up to this stereo (with built in guitar-jack) now i was was wondering if there was anyway i could record using the line-in where my computer is hooked in. i dont think its possible.

Any suggestions?

Check out some of the Line 6 products if you're looking to record from your computer! The only reason I say that is because plugging your guitar directly into the computer, or rigging it, or buying a bunhc of little things so that your guitar plugs into your computer is going to give you a really bad quality sound.

I'm not sure how much money you have, but I didnt have much either and I didnt want to spend thousands of dollars on studio-like equipment.

I started out with the Line 6 GuitarPort is a nice little $80 piece that you plug into your computer, via USB, and you plug your guitar into the GuitarPort. It comes with GearBox software that gives your guitar hundreds of different sound effects, such as Wah-wah, Stomp (distortion), EQ, Delay, etc.. with about 20 different amp models and 20 different cabinet models. The only downside is that you can't record unless you buy seperate software. I've been working with Sony ACID software for years, so I was using the Music Studio software to record and edit. Bu there's a Sony ACID XMC program for $40 that you beginners can use to record.

Now I'm using the Line 6 TonePort UX2 ($200).... the Toneport UX1 also comes with recording software, but I only went with the UX2 because it comes with the micraphone inputs! The UX2 already comes with recording software and hundreds of effects, amps, and cab. models! So if you have $200, I would DEFINATLY get that... otherwise start out with the Guitar port for $80 (or cheaper on ebay or amazon) and get the $40 Sony ACID XMC software!! And if you decide to go with those, let me know and I'll show you how to work them! But I would recommend the TonePort UX1 or UX2, both come with recording software!!

Alright. Right now my band and i have people record for us but we were thinking of figuring out our own stuff.

I've heard line-6 has some great inexpensive products. Thanks alot ill be sure to look into it.
