I tried to burn to cd some music I had on my hard drive using Easy CD creator. When I tried to play it on my stereo it would not work. However it will work on my friends machine. What am I doing wrong?

Not all CD players can read CD-Rs, even fewer can read CD-RWs.... new machines are not generally a problem but the older ones sure are.........

just my cds that don't work

Thank you Bruce but I don't think that is the problem. A friend has written music to cd for me. The cd's he makes will work on my stereo but the ones I record will not. But he is using the correct "musical equipment" to record with. I just have my home PC.

what type of file format are you using on this cd?
also, as bruce said, there are 2 types of cd's, the cd-r is generally accepted, the cd-rw requires a special format player- (computer rom drive only, usually)
a home stereo reads .cda format files, whereas an mp3 or someother format will be completely unintelligable to it.

If you're using EZCDCreator, make sure you do "Disk-at-once" and not "Track-At-Once". A CD player will not read a CD that has not been closed.

Is your Home CD player a Sony? They are notorious
for not playing back CDR,s burned with software.
Especially the 5 CD loader version.

Nonsense... it has nothing to do with the brand - simply the power capability of the laser pickup...

I have 2 of exactly the same model of Sony CD Player, the only difference one being 1.5 years older than the other.... the older one struggles to read CD-Rs, the newer has no problems whatsoever.....

My apologies..I should have stated the older Sony!

I have one also and I know of others who have the same problem. I think it has alot to do with the dye on some of the media that is being made and that I have had the opportunity to attempt to use. Some of it has been hit or miss when it comes to software burning. Whereas my stand alone can burn on anything it seems!

But my Sony does serve a good purpose and that being,
if I burn a CD ,and it can play on my Sony, then
I know it will play anywhere :)

Too be a bit more specific about my initial question, My friend has a Sony CD writer and his cd's (which say audio on the casing and cd) play on everyone of my friends players.

The Cd's that I use to record on my PC are not specifically audio recordable discs, where the ones I use are just general recordable cd's.

Do I need to specifically buy audio cd's to record wav files to play on a cd on all players?

Ah!!!! There's the problem...

WAV format files CANNOT be read by audio CD players - they can only be read by computer CD drives....

You need to convert WAVs to CD audio files befor ebeing able to play them in a standard cd player.......

It might behove you to try some different brands of media, specifically different dye's to see if possibly your burner is not optimized to burn to certain media.

Also, you should make sure that you are burning in Track At Once mode (as stated earlier).

One problem I encountered similar to this was caused by using shit CDR's.. Like "Memorex"..... I only use TDK now, and have yet to have a problem since changing...Joe
