they are all crap. buy any one, it really doesn't matter

lay out the big bux and aquire a u 87 or royer 121 with a rockin 24\128 converter

They're *all* crap. They slap $0.75 worth of USB converter silicon into an already amazingly bad microphone.... :) For a studio of any sort, they're just terrible. I mean, if all you're recording are podcasts (someone talking with no need to sync with any backing track), then they're usable (though the sound is still pretty bad).

You should expect to lay out $250 minimum if you want something of usable quality. Spend less, buy twice. Here's the cheapest hardware I'd even consider recommending to anyone:

Okay, I think you're just dipping your toe in and there's nothing wrong with that.
This hobby is a money pit for sure so you'd like to try something out before diving in.
USB mics are really not the way to go but I'd probably go for this one if I was going in your direction.

The problem with that (or any USB mic) is that the interface and the mic are together in one package. If you don't like both the sound of the mic and the sound qualify of the interface, then all you can do is dump the thing on eBay for somebody else to get stuck with.

For about twenty bucks less, you could get the audio interface I mentioned above and a really crappy mic like a Nady SP-1 and dip your feet in just as well. The only difference is that when you realize the mic is complete junk, at least you will have only wasted about $8 on the mic. :D
