I am a 'rock' guy and have not a clue what software would do him the best to start off with. Anyone have some suggestions? I have to admit, anything that will get his lazy ass to be creative musically, would make me very proud. He went from metal drummer (very good actually) to liquid music, hand dancing with lighted gloves, in a year. Hasn't touched his drums since. I have a full on Cubase studio in the basement, but do not have a clue what direction to send him, or purchase for him.

A very good tool for making crazy synths is massive (it can do just about anything for $200). As for daw, I use logic and it is great for midi and what not, but I have also worked with Fl studios (awesome) and ableton (awesomeer!)

I concur with the Massive suggestion. Have a few friends who recommend it very much. And i also use logic personally. It's great.

Massive looks incredible, and Skrillex uses it, along with FM8, to get his nasty basslines. He uses Ableton Live to do his tracks.

Also, SoniVox just put out "Wobble", which looks incredible if you are looking for that wobble bass sound.

At least it's not Attack Attack
