Hi,

If you have the time can you listen to my bollywood song please?

https://soundcloud.com/anoopbal/phir-se

I just did the vocals and used a pre-mix instruments track. Any feedback about vocals and mixing would be helpful. For my vocals, I used compression, reverb, and high pass EQ.

Thanks!!

Sounds pretty good but I feel the vocals are a little too loud for the backing track.

Always hard to mix vocals to a pre-recorded track though.

Thanks for taking the time, Mr. Clean.

Now when I listen to it I agree. And part of of it is the pe-mixed track. It is not really pre-mixed, it is just a track where they removed a vocal, so it loses a lot of the beat and punch. So it is just really flat.So when I lower the vocals, it just becomes too low.

This is the compression ratio I used: 2.5 : 1, Attack: 25, Release:200. Is this called fast or slow attack/release? Everytime I read stuff I get confused about what is fast and slow numbers for attack and release. And people say for fast song, use fast release/attack and slow for slow songs. Is this slow song/fast song?

Yep, you definitely want to start with good sources if you want good results.

There were a few pitchy notes here and there where you seemed to have trouble finding the note (not the bollywood trills, just off-pitch notes.)
You also had a lot of clips (the kind you get from bad mp3 compression). Are those in the backing track, the vocals, or the final mix?

Thanks Steve.

I agree. I usually use the monitors instead of the headphones. For some reason, I cannot sing with headphones. I don't get a sense of space and hence I get too loud or too quiet. So sometimes I cannot hear the beat and mess up the pitch. Also, i am still a newbie in singing so still learning :)

I think it is from the vocals. I heard it when I wore my headphones. i don't know if it is mike or the DAW. It is like a crackling noise.
