Being primarily a song-writer/guitarist, I'd like to hear some non-biased peoples' opinions on our "in-progress" pre-production tracks we're working on. They're without vocals, so those of you who aren't a fan of screaming can still possibly enjoy them!

There are several supporting parts not recorded (such as the solos), and they're over all pretty spartan (meaning mostly single-takes, no extra instrumentation, etc.) but I'd still like to hear some opinions.

Let 'em rip!

Hey, sounds really good. Don't think I have any criticism. The mix is about where it should be, as far as I can tell. I think I def. hear an Opeth influence, am I right?

Thanks man, we're pretty heavily influenced by Opeth yeah :) Production-wise, everything was pretty quickly done: just good enough to get the idea across.

ah I could def. hear that, even in the production style for guitars and drums. Sounds good, anyway. I'll look forward to hearing some of the finished ones.

Word, I'll post the in-progress stuff here occasionally, and definitely the final release early next year. :)

I hate what MySpace does to the sound quality. This isn't the kind of music I usually listen to but since there's no screaming in it yet I think I can give them a listen. :)

PreProduction Track 1: Sounds pretty good. A little messy sounding to me but I'm willing to bet that is the low sound quality. Sounds like it was produced well. Timing is tight and guitar tones sound pretty good.

PreProduction Track 2: Beginning sounds real muffled and lo-fi. When the other guitars kick in it sounds awesome. Really nice playing and guitar tones. A big step up from Track 1 in my opinion.

PreProduction Track 3: Intro guitar doesn't sound so hot. Almost like it was recorded direct with an amp simulator. Nice build up though. Are those real drums? Timing is tight despite the fast tempo. I really like the guitar melody on the left speaker at around 2:06? Sounds cool and melodic.

PreProduction Track 4: I like this. Especially how it starts out. I think this is my favorite song out of the bunch. It has that modern guitar tone that you hear on a lot of modern rock and stuff on the radio. I can't hear screaming vocals on this one, sounds like a more mellow tune than the others.

I think Track 2 is the best sounding as far as sound quality and production. Track 4 is by far my favorite song out of all of them though and I'd be interested in hearing how it sounds with vocals (hopefully no screaming ;)).

Thanks for the reply! Like I said, the point of these recordings wasn't to showcase my/our recording capabilities (they were mostly first-takes/rough ideas!), which really shows on parts like the beginning of track 3. That's actually going to be performed on piano, with bass doing a sweet melody line in the background, and possibly some light synth work. It'll be sweet, trust me!

Track 1 is missing a solo, and the bass really adds a lot to that song.

Track 4 is definitely everybody's favorite that I've shown it to: trust me, no screaming vocals on this one! It's gonna be the CD-closer, after all of the screaming and stuff: the contrast will hopefully be quite shocking haha.

Thanks again! I'll post again when I've updated with more instrumentation :)
