Hey guys, this is one songs that we all agreed came out the best of all our songs.

I really like what I did with the guitar solo, when I was mixing this song I couldn't help but notice the "Journey" feel to it. So thus the sort of "Don't Stop Believing" drum beat at the guitar solo.

But I did with the guitar solo is I cut the guitar track at the solo part, then I created another track, added extra reverb to that track and 'voila!' amazing sound. I tried just copying and leaving the original track, but it sounded to messy and "in your face" so I just cut it instead.

I'm aware if the bass sounds clippy but we are using a kinda bad amp. So until we get money for a new one it'll have to do for now.

Feedback is gladly welcomed, I'd like to know how to improve our mixes, and how to make it as close to professional sounding as I can.

Are there vocals coming? Because it's kind of long for an instrumental with only the three instruments and no major changes. Are you sure you uploaded the right mp3? The song cuts off six seconds after the solo starts (which does sound kinda neat, but you gotta wait through three and a half minutes of bass noodlin before you even get to it).
Mix wise, I'm not gonna tell you it's wrong to have your bass panned left and your guitar panned right, but the bass came through really loud, and threw off the stereo image a whole lot. Something to try might be putting the bass in the center (and doing some sympathetic eq between the kick and the bass - that is, the frequencies you cut in the kick, you boost in the bass, and vice versa. You can get a better description of it by searching it on this site), then going back in and doubling the guitar part. Play it the same as before, maybe with some different amp settings, and then pan your two guitar parts opposite each other. Don't copy/paste the one you already did, you want the microscopic differences between the two takes, (though you want to play them as similarly as possible. It'll probably take some practicing if you've never done it before, even with a song you know). You'll end up with a thicker guitar sound this way, which you're gonna want in this kind of song, since the guitar is a big part of what you're listening to. Um, there's probably more, but start with that and see how it sounds to you. Right now, it ain't quite there.
Just listened to it again before posting, and there really seem to be some timing issues. I can't be entirely sure, because that bass is really, really throwing me off, but you might end up having to retrack it. Like I said, try playing with the panning and see what happens.

Heheh yeah, we're sort of a experimental/progressive trio band. I've talked to my guitarist about vocals or possibly just making songs more diverse and maybe even more complicated.

I know the bass is sorta loud, but my guitarist demanded that bass be louder, I know, I know, follow my audio tech instincts, but he'll just keep pestering me about it. I'll try lowering it down a bit though.

As for the guitar, I'll try doubling it, you do mean by copying the guitar part and putting the copy into another track right?

As for the timing, yeah, we sort of improved on this one. Kinda how Dream Theater records their songs. There might even be some delay problems.

I see what you mean about the bass, it makes sense because it would blend better with the kick... never thought of that. I got the idea of panning from a site I read about mixing.
