my acoustic recordings

Dudes got one of the strangest voices ive ever heard. Its actually perculiar! im going to have a better listen now.
 
why is he crying so much? whats wrong with this other than the guys voice?
 
He sings like hes in some kind of pain. Maybe needs a new breathing technique if its uncomfortable. But if thats how he sings, fine. Everyone is unique, theres no right or wrong way of anything. Tell me your set up and how you recorded this. Mics, guitars, the room etc etc. Sonically its not too bad, i would add a bit more ambience to it and get the singer to move closer to the mic.
 
The Acoustic was a Martin..im not sure what model tho..we miced the acoustic with a Rode Ntk going into the line 6 tonone port acoustic preset i made.andthe guitar direct out into he presonus firepod...the vocals were done with the Rode ntk going into thetoneport..actully we tried having him sing closer to the mic but we heard alot of vocal poping..we had a pop filter and everyhting..it was weird lol

Get him to sing over the mic. raising his head, plus it will open his throat more, which is definetly a good thing for this lad. i would lose the tone port and track this raw before hand. Whats the room like? Martins can be hard to capture at times. Try where the neck joins the body, maybe back off by a good foot or so.

Ok so you recorded direct in the tone port and then what else? I got lost.
 
Actually i think that the first song you have on there is a nice acoustic tone though that is only my opinion. It seems to vary quite alot between tracks. Certainly you dont want to record every song the same all the time, but you also want to retain a tonal consistency between songs on the same project. It gives them empathy with each other.
 
no iused tonport for the mic on the acoustic and the firepod for direct

the tonport has that avalon pre modded :D
 
i bleive the miced track is panned 30 right and the direct is panned 30 left..

and as for the room its a small 10x8 room with carpet on the walls and celiing
 
a foot in ahalf or two..someone told me in the past with the Rode ntk mics they sound best distance.
 
I recorded an acoustic with an sm57 about a foot away.
 
sm57 damn..i tried that before i got the worst sound ever!
