My $5.00 Garage Sale Mic

If there were going to be any microphone miracles this week, I thought it would be the arrival of a box from Chance—my mics from the group buy.

I didn’t get those yet (any day now!), but I did find quite a deal at a yard sale on Saturday. I found a pristine EV-623 (EV’s equivalent of the Shure 545S—complete with pistol grip) for only $5.00.

For 5 bucks, I’d have taken it as a decoration—working or not. But since I had a 4-pin mic cable at home (from the Shure 545S) I was able to plug it in and check it out. It works perfectly.

Thanks guys. I haven't A/B'd against my other "go-to" cabinet mics, and when I do, I'll probably find that one's not better than the other--that they're just different. Which is good, 'cause more flavors is better.

But right now, I keep thinking of the $5.00 price tag--and that in and of itself makes it sound better to me!
