MXL990 Condenser Mic

I recently bought the MXL990 Condenser Mic.
I'm not 100% happy with its results.
Which brings me to the question; Do you think it's because
I don't have a well padded room? All I have is a few pieces of
foam stuck to my walls. Help

I understand the MXL990 has the same capsule as the MXL603S... but, it sounds different than the 603S because of the housing and etc... I sold my MXL990 because I didn't really care for it either.

Did you get good results with your MXL990?
Why did you get rid of it?

Not really... it was ok on some guitar amps, but other than that I thought it sucked eggs.

Search around here but I seem to remembering reading Harvey (I think) saying you have to take the screen off or something and then it sounding good.

It's really a high pressure mic. Thus its only use is high volume guitars or singers.

Its a niche mic, not one I would use for every day stuff. If your needing a primary i.e. lots of vocals and instruments it would not be my choice.

That said I have one and use it occassionaly for loud sound sources.
