I picked up 2 MXL V63s at mars to day for just over $60 a piece. Supposedly this mic is supposed to replicate an open vintage sound. So far so good. I really do think it sounds open and transparent. I came home and mic'ed up the pair of bongos (Toca Traditional Series) that I just got and was impressed to get the sound I did out of a $60 mic! Clean highs and smooth lows. Kinda reminds me of an AT4033 with the low cut and an added low-mid boost. I predict that the V63 will be a little muddy on some instuments since the low-mids are a little exaggerated from what I can hear thus far. This may sound good on kick tho. I also have a feeling that the V67 will sound great on amps for really loud and grungey rock. I still have a lot of messin around to do since I havent had much time to really get into it. (its late and I can't make a lot of noise)

I don't know how well this does for a review since I'm still new-ish but thought I'd give some insight.

$60 bucks a piece huh?
That's a deal!
I think I could find $60 in spare change in the sofa cushions.

Thanks for your thoughts.
Maybe post some samples in the clinic?

Ill get some bongo clips up later in the day. Mayvbe even A/B them next to an AT4033.

Can somebody comment whether this mic is equivalent to the V67m talked about so much here?

thanks

No, they are not even close. Its not that good for vocals. Its not good for acoustic guitars. Its ok for picking up some ambience because it dries it out. $60 is about $10 too much.

I've been liking my V63 since i got it. It's my first LD condensor and I was really on a budget. I've recorded some vox and guitar with it. I got those mp3's up on my website

It's a cover song done A Cappella. Recorded by multitrack with the MXL V63 on track at a time. the blend was a bitch to get ;)

The other songs on there are basically just rehearsals.
None of the songs have really been mixed at all. mostly just fast last minute EQ and FX added for quick mp3's.

I got my V63 for 60 bucks at mars too and I don't have much to complain about it since I don't have any 200 + dollar mics yet. (wanting a C1 really soon) BUT I can say that it's got a bit too much sibilance to it... but it's not WAY to harsh. A little EQ on the board and a pop filter can go a long way ;)
