What's this button do?
I saw this mic on ebay a while back. Anyone know anything about it?

Pete

HI,

I think you might mean the v67m. The mxl 57 is a shock mount for a microphone. I have a 67m and have just started using it. Sounds nice for my vocals so far. Search this site for the v67 and take a look at some of the info. Also a couple of links below.

Mars website:

MXL Website:

P.S. The ones I have seen on EBAY are the same price as a store bought. Shop around.

Good luck,

Fangar

Thanks, and I am well aware of the V67 craze and have plans to buy one. However, the V57M, from what I can gather, is either too new for info or too old to find on the websites. I doubt the shockmount is wired with Mogami cable, which usually is denoted by the M. I have searched this site and found a little info, but I was hoping someone might have one in use.

Thanks,
Pete

The XML V57 is a mic Marshall made exclusively for Mars Music. I have one and as near as I can tell it's the exact same as a V67 but a different color and it doesn't come with a shock mount. You'll definetly need a shockmount BTW. They sell one seperately for it called the "something"57 for an extra $50 bucks. I noticed at Mars yesterday that they have the V57's on sale at $79 dollars right now. In fact, that's what I came here to post about.

The Mars version of the MXL V67 is called the MXL V67m. The Mars version costs $99. I'm not sure what this $79 V57 microphone is. If you type "mxl" and "57" into the Mars website search engine, all that comes up is the shock mount that costs $49.

Windowman, are you sure you are not thinking of the SM-57? These are on the Mars website for $79.

The v57m looks like the same thing as the 1006.

Yup, the V63 I think is the same thing too. Mars had the 63 and 67 on their display board (take with grain of salt, no telling how they're EQ'd or where the gains are set)....the 63 was closed and boxy-sounding whilst the V67 was more open. The Behringer<ugh!> B-1 was set up as well, lower mids were cleaner but the highs had an annoying tinge to them. It's a 797 mike by the looks of the capsule. That one's $99 with case and shockmount, but boy it sounded screechy up top...yikes.

No, I got the right one, (I own one myself), it's the V57. Some people say it's the same as this Marshall mic or that one. It kinda depends on who you believe. I think Harvey knows which is which. Anyhow, it looks exactly the same as the V67 and one of the guys I know (but not well) who works at Mars told me he thought the two sounded pretty much identicle.

However, I know that on the Mars website they don't mention the V57 as being on sale at that price but another one (the model number escapes me.) But like I said, I knida got the impression from a guy at the store that depending on which store your in and how many they have in stock, you might get a V57. This is the only Marshall mic I can vouch for in the sound department because it's the only one I've ever owned.

If you want to take a look at the other thread I started about the V57, I posted a pic of it there and some more info about it. Apparently Marshall isn't going to make em anymore so Mars is selling em cheap, or something like that.

I saw the pic of the V57m (the mic, not the mount) on the other post. Now I never took a business class, and maybe I'm just a little slow, but why the hell would a company make a microphone and a shock mount and give them both the same model number? Ok, so maybe the model number on the Mars version of the v67 was Mars' idea. Fine. But that still means MXL makes the MXL 57 and the MXL 57m, which is uneccessarily confusing. What, are they trying to save money by reusing the stencil?

Here is some review, its clearly as MXL V57M...microphone

http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1424

I get the idea, that the Shock Mount..the MXL-57 was made for the MXL V57M, microphone, straight barrel body. Its still Sold for the V63, V67G andV67M...etc other straight barrel mics..

Peace,
Dennis

"What, are they trying to save money by reusing the stencil?"

Some people just can't come up with a good name for anything. I mean, who would purposely give their kid a name like Dweezel or Edzel? Strange world....

I got v57m with shockmount for $99 from Mars. It sounds good. The box says transformer balanced, but I opened it up and found no transformer...the specs look the same as for v67 and their other near bottom of the line condensers.
