MXL 960 Tube Condenser Mic

I am interested in anyone's input on this mic, am looking at getting one and have heard you can hot-rod the tube for a better sound. I'm open to ideas/suggestions for low cost, good sounding vocal recording mics.

I put a GE 5 star 6072 in mine and it opened it up.
I got the tube (among others) from a dude over at Gearslutz. Can't remember his handle right now but someone here might know him.
Really nice guy and good price.
