Better Than You
A buddy of mine just showed up with a couple of mics he got in a package deal.
MXL 2001p and MXL603S ( got them both for $125 new)
Anyone have any feedback on these mics and what they would be best suited for?

Hi Toker, there's been a few threads posted here in the past about the MXL 2001/603 package... try doing a search.

In a nutshell... many people said the 2001 is a piece of crap, and the 603 is awesome. See the sticky at the top of the microphone forum to learn what they're best suited for.

the 2001 is a good voiceover mic. but its hard for the most part to use it for singing.

You can make a flashlight out of the 603 and a bong out of the 2001. I think if you use the search function above you will find countless threads containing instructions on how to do these two fabulous DIY projects. :D

:D :D Now that's funny :D :D

Ok, played around with them last night. The 603s is really sweet. The 2001 is ok. Like just about any other mic it will find it's niche in the scheme of things. Everyone is saying it's too bright, but I was able to get some nice bottom out of it with a little work and EQ. Not bad for acoustic guitar, but it took a little doing to find the right placement. Long review short....I would not go out and buy the 2001, but I would (and just might) buy the 603 (infact I'm thinking maybe 2). So it's not really a bad package for the price, but I will buy two 603's instead. Thanks for the opinions all.

Has anyone mic'd a guitar cab with the 603? I haven't tried that. I love the sm57 on my marshall JCM800, but I'm not sure I like it for my Boogie. Also, has anyone else noticed they could benefit from a shockmount?

Then get the Marshall MXL603SPR... it's a "matched pair" with shock mounts and case.
