that sucks...i'm sure you can still haggle your way down though

DJL, how right you are! But I don't give a flying shit for 'matched pairs' of cheap Chinese condensers. :D

There are no matched pairs of Neumann KM184's, they all sound pretty much the same.

Almost $100 for 'matching'and a pair of cheap schockmounts?

And the $154.95 pair even come with a pair of 10' mic cables.

I will buy that 'unmatched' pair and save $95 plus have a pair of mic cables for free. Matched pair, don't make me laugh.

Actually, they really are very well matched. I showed Marshall a very cost effective and fast method of matching microphones that I developed at JBL many years ago. It works very well, uses their existing test equipment, and allows for very close matching of microphones in about 1/10 the time of using normal mic matching procedures.

Using this technique at JBL, I was able to match tweeters for a government contract within a 1/4 of a dB (both frequency response and sensitivity). Using our test lab, we could match about 20 pair of tweeters a day, whereas my method could match about 40 pair in about an hour.

Han, I just answered your "But what about $154.95?" question.

Harvey, a while back you posted how to test mics using simple stuff like car keys and etc... you wouldn't happen to have a link to that thread/post would you? It was a very helpful post/thread. Thanks

Thanks for the insight, Harvey. I didn't know that and had assumed they probably weren't matched very well.

Wow, that really sucks. I was planning on buying a pair of those sometime this summer. Now I will definitely have to reconsider the SP C4s instead. I think I heard the C4's were coming down in price soon? Anyone know anything about this? If I buy some from the store I work at it probably won't help me since their computer will still have the old cost for the ones they already have in stock.

There was a dealer on eBay that was selling the same set (matched pair plust case and shockmounts) you can get at 8thstreet for around $160-170, plus shipping. I was lucky enough to get one last spring. I don't see one of these sets listed right now, but maybe if you keep an eye out you'll find one.

Hey all'

Shreve audio has them at 69$ a peice. with out the shock mounts though.
www.shreveaudio.com My pair that I just bought came to about to 140$ shipped

I only have to turn up the gain a notch to have both 603s putting out the same output there is a small difference but not enough to worry about.

Rats. I'm edging towards more 603s. I have a pair with those shockmounts and the mounts are worth the extra money - very well built and no trouble. They also work well with an SM57.

I let one out of my sight and a wayward harmonica player nailed it last summer - banged it against a stand - and it died a whimpering death about three weeks later. So I need more. And more... and more...

I'll get a NADY dynamic and engrave his name on it.

Even so, at $250 the 603 pair is still a steal.

can still get them for $199

they are still available for $199 at other places.

oops

I must admit I dropped mine one time too many. Getting ready for a gig, holding too many things at once. Dropped it on the floor in my bedroom, wooden floor. That was that. Never worked since. And then I messed up the MXL 2001 as well.

With the MXL 2001 that came with it, I stupidly left it in the stand, out in the open air, for a long time and I guess it got dust in it. As now when you plug it in it is just a mess of gurggles and hisses and crackles. Anyone know if there is a way to repair or clean a mike like that?

So now I just ordered the stereo matched pair of MXL 306S, which I hope to take better care of. Live and learn.
