Is it just me, or do the clips that come with the MXL 603s suck? It takes me half the session just to get the mics in and out of those things.

I agree... the 603s' fit very tightly on their clips. At least you know they won't be falling off easily.
I usually get some PAM cooking spray on 'em. (kidding)

I got mine securely duck-taped in my normal clips.

Actually, I find that if you pre-heat the mic clips in the microwave for about 30 seconds (on high setting), this facilitates mic entry.

Man I really hope your kidding.
On a side note I have been using my 603's to record various concert bands for my college and have gotten great results. I wouldn't hesitate to use these things for a choir or symphony either. I was recording in a very nice hall that our school has just completed this year though. So that helps.
Has anyone had a problem with the screws one the back loosening?? They did that to me yesterday and it took me about 30 minutes to tighten up the housing. Those screw are really small.
These mics are totally amazing though.

i don't know what you guys are talking about. my 603's come out of the clips very easily, but they're hold tightly enough. on the other hand, my ecm8000's are HARD to get out of the clips. i'm always afraid i might break the damn mic.

Hmm...no clip problems with mine...one came with a 2001 from Klay's, the other from Abe Music...each fits the clip fine, though the clip seems originally intended for a mike with a tapered body.
I'd eventually like to scare up a pair of shockmounts for them.

Spring loaded clips
I have some spring loaded clips that work great for odd sized mics. The are like a bannana clip. Give the back a squeeze and set the mic in. Works great. you should be able to pick them up at a larger music store I would think.
You may have a problem if you really clobber the mic with a drum stick or somthing?

You can also wrap a piece of foam around the body of the mic and use a rubber band to secure it to a mic clip: it ain't pretty, but it's a cheap and effective shock mount.
