I believe I've heard you say you don't use McFadden's lacquer, right?
We're all freaking out on this side of the pond right now, because we just found out they are in bankruptcy, and it looks like they are finished. The word I kept hearing out of the phone yesterday was receivership, so that does seem to be that.
For those who don't know, McFadden's has supplied lacquer, UV cured polyester, and other finishes to most of the guitar building industry, including Gibson, Fender, just about every hand builder I know who still uses nitro, and most of the smaller factories as well (though, as it turns out, Taylor and Martin had switched to other manufacturers in the last few years because McFadden's wasn't working with their robot sprayers - Martin to another nitro, and Taylor to someone else's UV cured polyester.)
So, just as I start to feel really confident that I can shoot a good finish every time, the fucking company goes out of business, and I have to come to grips with someone else's product! Yeah, frustrating is the word. I'm also predicting a rise in finish related warranty claims from Gibson and Fender in the next few years as they sort out the new supplier's products.
Oh yeah, that's also where Guitar Reranch got their products, so I'll be curious to see what happens with their business.
